Seven AFL Coverage

Excluding Tasmania, of course. As Southern Cross don’t hold broadcast rights to the TSL and don’t air the VFL, I presume they will simply just air encores of whatever reality shows are currently airing or movies throughout next season and beyond.

Here in NSW, this will probably mean we will get Shute Shield rugby union on the main channel when the state based Australian Rules games are on down south.

I think these were on 7TWO last year.
Can’t remember what QLD has?

I think the local RU coverage is a NSW only thing.

Qld has nothing anyway so they may even shunt some of the Autumn racing and Stradbroke Day onto the main. A lot of Suns/Lions games would be a twilight 7Mate job in any case.

Collingwood player Moana Hope stars in the latest ad promoting Seven’s AFLW coverage - live and free in HD (with a small disclaimer that HD is not available in some parts of Queensland). You can see the ad here
Hope also features in the AFL’s latest AFLW ad which revives the 1990s slogan “I’d like to see that”. That ad also includes Michelle Payne, Cathy Freeman, SBS’s Lee Lin Chin, Turia Pitt and Melbourne captain Nathan Jones and his daughter Bobbi.

Those new Seven Sport graphics (as we’ve seen during the Australian Open and in that promo), with the red/white panels, look almost identical to a Classification Board Ch 7 used over 2010-2012 I think?

Next Friday’s AFLW season opener between Collingwood and Carlton has been moved to Princes Park to cater for a larger crowd. Starting time has been moved forward to 7.45pm AEDT.

May be reading too much into it but like parano1a3h noted in another thread, the appearance of the HD disclaimer suggests that the dreaded 7/7mate HD split will return after the Australian Open ends. Guess like we’ll find out soon through the EPG listings

Yeah sounds like it- but maybe when it said national - I thought that 7HD would be for all states… I would hope to be proven right by the latter. :frowning:

I have gotten so used to 7HD and watching HD tennis, and some shows in HD… nooo don’t go!

It’s great Seven is able to stream live the Pies-Blues match to all people. During the AFL season streaming of all matches are only available to fans who has an AFL Live Pass.

Shouldn’t it be Western Bulldogs v Fremantle Dockers as the press release points out?

Another mistake from Seven.

I have zero interest in it, but it is good to see Seven putting the women’s AFL on the primary channel in Melbourne and Adelaide.

It is, I will be interested to see how well they rate.

###League of Her Own on Seven

Friday 3 February after AFLW Carlton v Collingwood match

A compelling documentary on the rise of women’s football

One hundred years after women played their first game of football, the passionate, devoted and deserving female players now have a league of their own in the AFL.

League of Her Own celebrates the rise of women’s football in Australia whilst capturing the struggles faced along the way.

Following the first ever AFL Women’s game, the documentary follows the journey of three players, Moana Hope, Stephanie Chiocci and Tayla Thorn along with other influential people who pushed for this dream to come true for all Australian women.

Despite the setbacks, Chiocci has never given up on her dream. Chiocci played for local club Diamond Creek for 10 years, not knowing if she would ever get the chance to advance to the AFL. League of Her Own depicts Chiocci’s inspirational and moving journey as she goes from local club football, to waiting for her name to be called at the first AFL Women’s draft.

Hope’s journey has also been far from simple. When she was young, like many other female footballers, Hope was told she could no longer pursue her passion for football. Running through life facing a number of hardships, Hope never gave up on her dream of the big league. Now, she has been selected as a forward for the Collingwood Football Club in the inaugural 2017 AFL draft after an amazing season in the VFL kicking over 100 goals for the St Kilda Sharks.

League of Her Own, presented by Angela Pippos, also travels to the top end where NT hopeful Tayla Thorn awaits answers of her AFL destiny whilst also aiming to be a role model and inspiration for her community.

History has been made in 2017 and Australian women no longer have to worry about having equal opportunity in football. League of Her Own tells the story of the stigma and non-inclusive nature surrounding women’s football in light of their great success in launching the first AFL Women’s season this year.

Seven will broadcast the first AFL Women’s match this Friday nationally, then every Saturday Night as well as the Grand Final LIVE and exclusive Saturday March 25.

League of Her Own is produced and directed by multi-award winning producer Nicole Minchin and sports journalist and author Angela Pippos.

Broadcast times:

Friday February 3
Sydney 6pm on 7mate
Melbourne 9:45pm on Channel 7
Brisbane 5pm on 7mate
Adelaide 9.15pm on Channel 7
Perth 7pm on 7mate

The AFLW on Seven/7mate will be up against the Suncorp Super Netball on 9Gem on five Saturday nights. The ratings will be interesting.

It wont rate.

AFLW will rate about ten times what the Netball will rate in Melbourne.

The netball won’t even make the top 20 in multichannels… Do we think the women’s AFL will rate on Seven? I don’t think people are interested enough in AFL in February, hence why networks have up on the preseason matches.
