I noticed ABC News is one of the channels, I’ll bet it is ABC America. I doubt ABC Australia would want to put its stream on Flash given NewsCorp is the ABC’s biggest rival!
it will end up the same as the music stores from the late 90’s when every man and his dog had a music store.
I predict the following will happen
1 - niche services will be fine - this is either sporting (MLB.TV, Golf TV, Tennis Channel, etc) or specialized entertainment (foreign language, specialist doco, etc)
2 - services where streaming is not the main revenue driver - contact creators who stream as an additional revenue stream such as Disney plus and paramount plus will be fine.
3 - netflix, stan and other services that do not create, but rather agregate content will go the way of the dodo - they will lose contacts and content
Netflix is becoming a pretty big creator in their own right these days!
I would like to see a Spotify of the in streaming services. I think the churn rate is going to get high and a lot of the existing services are going to go.
It wouldn’t surprise me if it is indeed our ABC News. The US ABC News channel goes by ‘ABC News Live’ on all the streaming platforms they’re on. ABC is also available on Foxtel and even tailors a news bulletin for it.
all the major streaming services are creating their own content now Netflix, Stan & Prime etc. all make their own content.
and the minor ones, saw a “Tubi Original*” movie being advertised the other day.
*quality not guaranteed
Was it Swim? Cause I saw it the other day and it was stupid. Not even so bad it’s good type level, just plain stupid.
ha yeah that’s the one.
When I saw “from the producers of Sharknado” it did set off a little alarm bell
Was bound to happen. The loss of the UCL to Stan was the beginning of the end
so over the last month or so ive checked out a few streaming services and i want to give my thoughts
-
Paramount+ - signed up for the 7 day free trial and immediately unsubbed after looking at the content. theres not a lot there that interests me or my family. very sparse.
-
Britbox. payed a year in advance but i have a feeling it will only be for a year. my kids love mr bean and the wife loves dr who but its missing some icons of UK TV - No The Bill for example, and its not got mock the week (which i watch via vpn anyway).
-
Disney+ is the clear winner for me, especially with star now. plenty of content for me (i binged the new mighty ducks series) and for the kids. i set up a profile for them only giveing PG & G access and let them run wild. i’m not concerned about what they see on it, although i still will sueprvise
I only subscribe to Britbox for Spitting Image.
LeadStory launched globally this month with ABC News (Australia) and Ticker on board, alongside the likes of BBC, EuroNews, Bloomberg, CNBC and Al Jazeera.
Foxtel is expected to unveil details of its third SVOD product, news streaming service “Flash”, this week. The SMH believes the service will launch in mid October with a $10 per month subscription fee. They’re believed to be in talks with the ABC to include ABC News Channel to compliment content from outlets such as CNN, BBC, Fox News, CNBC and Sky News.
A blind auction to be held for the EPL rights. Optus, Stan, Amazon Prime and P+ in the mix. Will be interesting here ans could net as much as $80m a season.
Are they allowed to use that name given the old product Adobe Flash has the word Flash in it ?
Also, will there be NZ news on this service?
This is what a post a few weeks ago on Whirlpool had - as you can see they have One News NZ there. Not sure in what form however.
