Ten News (Regional NSW/ACT/Vic/QLD/TAS)

That is 100% my understanding of the TDT licence.

S38B covers the creation of the license, it is not a type of license. The unique part is an exception to the 1 channel per market ownership rules, it expands who can own it, not limits.

Ten would buy it in preference to WIN trying to shut it down, but otherwise the status quo is fine for all involved - as WIN/Seven can nerf TDT as competition for ad buys in the limited market, but nothing would prevent a transaction.

I’d say…

Make that 7pm slot the space for opt-outs to allow for regional bulletins to be inserted. Like Ballarat or Shepparton, and heck, even Canberra. It would rate miles better than 10 News+ @ 6. Easy. No one can complain about that right?

With what money? 10 will not do regional news. This needs to stop being suggested. It just won’t happen.

So would a test pattern. I hate to admit it, but David is right. I’d love to see 10 do regional news. But with Skydance in control, I can’t see it happening.

I’m going to be left-field. I reckon 10 should sell to Sky NZ. I reckon we could see them do a better job than current management are at present.

It would have been interesting to see what 10’s regional affiliates would have done for regional news had they remained owned by their pre-aggregation owners.

Not all owners were as ruthless as the owners of Telecasters, Southern Cross, Win etc. I’m sure cost would have played a part but without speculating too much we might have had different outcomes.

I’m not so sure about that. The outcome will always have been less local news bulletins due to the cost of running them

For $1 I dare say as was three to SKY NZ recently?

Hate to tell you, most of the 10 regional markets are only kept on air for the sake of national ad buys only. And not to insert local programming anymore, except for the minimum of minimum of mandated local content quota requirements.

If they’re only kept on-air for the sake of national ad buys only, why did they even bother with keeping regional ads on the stations?

Money.

And I imagine national buys don’t fill every ad slot on every channel so there are still spots to fill locally.

Better than no local ad revenue at all. The local ad revenue helps pay for affiliation costs.

As of recent, on 10 HD Wollongong I have seen way more PSAs (some CSAs in general and a lot of ads for Save The Children, Fred Hollows Foundation and even The Smith Family) and Home Shopping informercials (mostly for KlevaRange and the SuperSleeper Pro but also some for Global Shop Direct) than for that of either national or local ad buys.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Ten (Regional)

…yep, noticed this on 7TAS too AND during primetime including the news. They only really advertise shows on their multichannels and also play an AFL filler promo which drives you nuts!

TDT still using 10NF graphics. C’mon!!!
