I can’t imagine there would be many other places they could make savings other than further cuts to their news division?
So then owning the stations saves and makes them money.
I know its unlikely to happen, but even if Ten revived State Focus, it would give something
Not really sure your point here?
SCA Listnr ads have disappeared as far as I’m aware but so they should. SCA was obviously airing them for free to fill time, 10 would probably want to plug its own shows. Neither would contribute to revenue beyond perhaps driving a negligible amount of people towards whatever was being advertised.
Weeknights was good in its day in the gv, and good alternative to Win News. Sandwiched between Ten News and the project. Usually hosted on location by Joel Crean and was not always in Shepp as they travelled around a bit. I think a weeknights style show would be good but as others have mentioned probably won’t happen
I’m talking ads for SCA’s Hit and Triple M stations in these areas, e.g: hit91.9 Bendigo, hit96.9 Goulburn Valley and Triple M Gippsland.
SCA were probably only putting Listnr, Hit and Triple M ads into vacant ad spots. I imagine they wouldn’t want to pay Ten for them.
@Toddletoon can you please check to see if ex-SCA 7 is still running Hit and Triple M ads in Hobart during ad breaks after Seven took over?
And on that note I think any further discussion about ads appearing on Ten Regional can be taken to an appropriate thread and not be part of the news discussion
Can the mods push this post into the relevant thread as it is off topic?
The networks regularly use their Parliament House studios for non-political content. The Project crossed to that studio a lot for any story in the Canberra area, or where they needed an expert who was based there.
I would be surprised, considering 9, ABC and Sky present lengthy programmes from PH, that there would be lease clauses about the types of shows you can film there. They film dramas in PH, like Secret City. Why would they ban a news bulletin?
Keep dreaming, it aint going to happen, there will be no Canberra produced commercial news bulletins full-stop, there is no money! And where is the space to accommodate a full newsroom with COS, Journos, Producers, Editors, Camos, etc? That is apart from the existing crews that cover Federal politics.
Those dramas you speak of contain a political component, and thus are given clearance to film scenes around the building. One exception is in the actual Chambers.
Yes, many of the News bureaus do live crosses for programs interstate which have no political component, but as long as there is political content produced by the bureau, they get away with it.
My comment was purely about the leases at PH. I’m dubious about any ban on press freedom in the building.
There are plenty of crosses with no political connection done from PH in Canberra.
Just watch a week of Sunrise, Today or recall the Project.
And where is the mythical newsroom going to be located? If you have ever been in there, you will know the likes of Seven, Ten and SBS only have enough space to do 2-ways, let alone have a full studio set and fully staffed newsroom? The leases are very tight through the Department Of Parliamentary Services for commercial tenants. And the extra staff would be taking away already full car parking space for existing APH Parliamentary staff. By your understanding, the ABC would be doing the ACT bulletin from APH instead of Northbourne Ave? That would displace national program commitments with political components already done by the ABC at APH. Again, that will never happen. I do not understand your fascination for News Bulletins coming out of APH?
Spot on.
Not that even Insiders doesn’t come from PH, it comes from Northbourne.
Ten would sooner do any local news for Canberra from their office at Fyshwick, but I mean pigs might also fly.
Work from home arrangements with video playout from Sydney? I think thats as likely in an unlikely scenario of 10 Canberra getting a news bulletin.
Personally i think 10 News Sydney could do a 5-6 minute pre-recorded section to be played in the section of the news pre- sports report for Canberra and Southern NSW.
I honestly think even my suggestion wont happen in a million years because it comes down to money and given the money that 10 News+ is costing, its extremely unlikely.
I cant see Canberra/ACT and Hobart/Tasmania getting separate news broadcasts even if those markets were reclassified to become metropolitan markets asbthe money is not there
Won’t happen.
I am happy to be corrected but…I don’t think SWM or WIN could even sell to Ten, as the TDT licence is linked to TNT and TVT…
Not linked, only an additional licence under S31B of the Broadcasting Act.
Same as Mildura, both WIN and Seven could close down TDT as soon as it’s current affiliation with TEN expires?
S31B allows two existing operators to jointly apply for a third licence, that’s true.
But S31B seems to make no provision for a third operator acquiring the S31B licence from the joint venture operators.
I would understand that the S31B licence exists on the express condition that it’s jointly owned by the two other licence holders? Otherwise you’d need to apply for a normal licence?
