Seven v Nine News Ratings Comparisons

Very close between Seven News & Nine News in Melbourne & Sydney.

Red continues for Nine News, well below 1m or 900k some nights, which is worrying.

Itā€™s red for Seven News as well

Looks like 7Brisbaneā€™s chance of passing 9 is slipping away with 9 winning the last couple.

Great win by Seven News in Sydney

Well done to Nine News in Brisbane, which was very close this year.

Notable for being the first non-Olympics win for Seven News Sydney this year, yes.

A great win? Iā€™m not so sure about that, especially with a very slim leading margin of less than 5k.

Nine News have got serious systemic problams at the momentā€¦

When Nine News dominated Sydney for so long, any weekly win by Seven News will be described as great.

Yeah shame Seven Brisbane couldnā€™t maintain their momentum. They had such a strong winning streak then over the past few weeks itā€™s been alternating wins between 9 and 7 each night. I still think the overall trend is with 7.

This is a year-to year comparison of the news ratings. The numbers compared are the average across one hour of published overnight numbers (so there could be some minor adjustments for consolidated).

The 2015 number used is the average for survey period up to week 43. The 2016 number is this yearā€™s average excluding the two weeks of the Olympics.

The table shows the change from 2015 to 2016; green= increase, red= decrease.

At the end of week 43 in 2015, Nine News was number one, ahead of Seven by 85,000. This year Seven is ahead by 54,000, a change of 138,000 as reflected in the table. I would say that the changes that are in the 5,000 (or even 10,000) range are not significant so Adelaide is pretty much the same and the change is Perth is not huge. Possibly the biggest surprise is Melbourne where there has been a 55,000 change.

Enjoy :grinning:

Wow.

Ch 9 will be disappointed on the whole with their 2016 6pm News.

Down across the board! Apart from 5 city metro, most notably in Sydney (more so) & Melbourne.

Well done to Peter Mitchell, Jennifer Keyte & Seven Newd Melbourne  Big achievement for this TV era & considering Peter Hitcheners power/legend status!

Nine Brisbane at 21 weeks winning the year based on weeks-won. Based on average audience Nine News Brisbane is ahead by a few thousand (incl Olympics). Green for Brisbane bulletins with this weekā€™s news.

Green across the board for Brisbane (due to Dreamworld tragedy) & red across the board for Melbourne (not sure why, always comes off a higher base than other markets anyway).

Still very close in a Brissie. If 7 can get that lead in win consistent, theyā€™d have a good chance.

It is quite possible that Seven will get the higher average audience across the survey period with just a few thousand between them.

After a big news week in week 43, the Brisbane bulletins all drop this week. Seven has a win in Sydney, winning 4 out of 5 nights; even without the Melbourne Cup day number they would still have won the week. Iā€™m surprised, I thought that Nineā€™s bulletins would have had a big boost from the test match lead in as well as only running for 30 minutes (excluding the lower rated second half of the bulletin).

Green across the board for Melbourne with big figures, probably due to the Melbourne Cup carnival?

But red across the board for Brisbane, any ideas why?

Seven News have now officially won 4 weeks in both Melbourne & Sydney (another out of survey week in Melbourne too).

Nine would be disappointed, especially with the cricket lead-ins.

Nine News has been unusually poor over the past month or so?

Coming weeks will be interestingā€¦
