Seven News Presenters and Reporters (2015-Sept 2020)

David Brown is bloody brilliant. Can we keep him? Can we keep him? Please :slightly_smiling:

It is interesting that of all the people they elected to bring him up to Sydney and not use the plethora of reports available to them from heir newsroom. It seems odd.

Brownie is actually in Sydney!

…and here’s the proof of that: https://twitter.com/7NewsSydney/status/688994095755169792

Of course, I agree that Seven could do a lot worse than making David Brown the permanent regular weather presenter in Sydney.

+1 absolutely… this is a step in the right direction!

I guess when you have a specialist at your disposal who isn’t doing a lot, it’s wise to use them. Especially as it doesn’t take anyone out of your reporting pool at a time when people can be on leave etc.

With no Morning & Afternoon News or Daily Edition for the next fortnight David would have been idle.
Maybe Sally Bowrey is taking holidays?

Successive news directors have made a lot of bad decisions in Melbourne, but replacing David Brown from the weeknight weather way back when has to be up there with the worst.

Agree that is it is wise to use them but it comes at a much bigger cost of accommodation for the week. Ah well, not complaining.

I’m sure Network Seven would have some sort of ‘contra’ deal with a hotel chain or similar that advertises. :slightly_smiling:

Im a producer at 7news and I think this list establishes the credibility of our teams - what do you think?

Walkley Award winners for tv news reporting:

2008 - 7 News Sydney

2009 - 7 News Melbourne

2010 - 9 News Canberra

2011 - 7 News Brisbane

2012 - 7 News Sydney

2013 - 7 News Sydney

2014 - ABC News Middle East Bureau

2015 - 7 News Sydney

6 of the last 8 won by 7news, 4 of 8 won by 7news Sydney.

You can say “yeah but” all you want. Facts speak for themselves.

Great response. Love it

Maybe you could suggest running a few promos that focus on this sort of stuff rather than repeatedly trying to reinforce that “Mark Ferguson was born and raised in Tamworth”?

I’m Seven’s biggest fan but I happily stand by my earlier comments. Nine seems to have the more experienced team. If that perception is wrong then that’s a significant issue that needs to be addressed at your end.

This is your opinion only, one of 24,000,000 Australians and you’re entitled to argue it. But 6 out of the past 8 Walkleys is fact. If you’re looking for credibility, there’s your answer. I won’t post again but I think sometimes people need to examine the facts sometimes, they can be helpful.

I’ve often wondered why Seven, with 2 qualified meteorologists in David Brown and Jane Bunn, don’t simply do a “Weather Centre” style area in their Melbourne offices and send it through to all stations for the news. Surely we’d all rather get our weather from a meteorologist than a young lass standing up next to a green screen reading what the BoM has sent out?

Isn’t Tony Auden a meteorologist as well?
Terrific idea, like Sunrise did in 2008 with the Weather Tracker, but I Jane isn’t that good of a presenter I understand.

Yes, he is. Auden presents the weather on the local Afternoon and 6PM news weekdays.

and Seven could on-sell it to radio stations for their breakfast shows etc who want more in-depth coverage of storm events etc, plus things like top of the hour news - “now for Roma’s most extensive weather forecast, here’s meteorologist David Brown from the Seven Weather Centre.”

Promotes Seven News, promotes Seven presenters… earns some revenue. Where’s the downside? :slightly_smiling:

I know you said you’d never post again, but why do you feel the need to join the site, read the comments in this thread and then berate the users who are having a discussion? Sure, some of our points are extreme… but the demographic here is a wide variety, including other industry professionals who don’t feel the need to be a keyboard warrior.

Awards don’t always equal quality, professionalism or integrity. I should know, I’m in the industry.

Well if we are on the subject of accolades what about all of the Logie awards that Nine News (and it’s offshoot programs) have won since television first began. After doing some extensive research the Nine Network has won at least 60 awards, with the Seven Network having won approximately 20. Some are industry selected, some were voted by the viewing public.

And just throwing it out there, ABC News has racked up more Gold Walkley Award recipients than any of the commercial networks.

Just like you said: You can say “yeah but” all you want. Facts speak for themselves.

Point of my post: No need to be arrogant. But cheers for your input, it was quite satisfying doing my research - I could go on with this, however I thought I’d state the most relevant information. And for those playing along at home, the Logies website and the Walkley Awards website is where I located everything.
