Since when has David Brown ever presented even a single weather forecast (aside from the Melbourne-produced “fill-in” bulletin that aired on July 4 last year) for Sydney’s 6pm bulletin as opposed to national bulletins? I certainly can’t remember one…
He presented Sydney weather on Christmas day.
The graphics could be cleaned up a bit (there’s no need for those icons around the edges of the Sydney metro forecast, for instance) but I think that a statewide forecast is something that Seven really should implement on a regular/permanent basis, as they’re otherwise the only major Sydney/NSW news bulletin not to have some sort of look at the weather around the state.

David Brown is doing our weather in Sydney this evening. Must be the first time a bloke has done it in over a decade.
And I think Jim Wilson did the weather. Both Ryan Phelan and Angie Asimus presented the 5pm News today, so why didn’t they do Sydney bulletin as usual?
The could be just testing David Brown to a Sydney audience.
Paula Voce and Chris Young presenting in Perth this evening.
Agreed, Brownie’s forecast made me realise how poor the usual forecast we get is.
Perhaps Angie had to leave early? Jim presented sport (not weather!) from Melbourne.
I doubt it but wouldn’t mind him doing weekends on a permanent basis, especially Sundays if he had an extra thirty seconds and could do a comprehensive look at the week ahead.
A few things…
-
Why would Seven want to ‘poach’ any journos from Nine? Isn’t Chris Reason a stalwart? Also Robert Ovadia & Paul Kadak have been around since the 90’s too.

David Brown has been around for way too long I can’t even remember, so isn’t it a bit late to be trying him out on Sydney weather? He’s reports are brilliant though.
Noticed while he’s been filling-in for Jane Bunn (Melbourne) weekdays, Rebecca Maddern has been voicing-over weekends.
- I take it Jim Wilson was presenting from HSV-7 studios, due to Australian Open (morning?) host position duties?
Robert Ovadia was referred to recently on Sunrise as “7 Senior Reporter”.
Here in Sydney at least, Nine have got a pretty decent collection of reporters from experienced senior journalists to younger up and coming talent. Probably the best of any commercial network in the city.
I personally find it hard to believe that Seven wouldn’t want to poach any of Nine’s reporters or even presenters considering the ratings position of the two news services (granted, that Seven’s ratings have improved somewhat in recent times post-The Chase Australia launch) in Sydney over the past few years.
And although it might be true, it sounded weird hearing it. ![]()

Chris Reason is now a presenter and rarely goes out into the field. They have Rob Ovadia and others like Paul Kadak and Chris Maher but their team just doesn’t seem to have the same depth of experience that Nine’s does.
Either they need to buy in some more experienced faces or they need to do a better job establishing the credibility of their team.
Obviously Jim would have presented sport, especially after it was just mentioned David Brown did the weather. What about Ryan Phelan, did he have to leave early too?

I understand he did an OB from the tennis.

I was actually looking at Nine’s reporters the other day and TCN definitely has a real strong team.
Just read Bec Maddern said on twitter she is having a short break after this week, anyone know how many consecutive days she has worked lately?
I would say she has read the news on Sunrise for 6-8 weeks, if that helps, not sure about her shifts on Seven sport or Seven News Melbourne.
In Queensland
Shane Webcke returned from leave last night to present sport whilst Kay mentioned Rod will return from holidays this weekend, mostly likely she will begin her break. Both Sharyn and Bill will return tomorrow night.
Nonsence.
I’ve seen plenty of reports from Chris Reason on Seven News Sydney, even as late as last year.
Usually breaking or developing news (short headline) reports.
Because I watched them on the 7 News Video site, if I miss the bulletin (each markets reports are uploaded during the evening).
Yes he files reports but so does Melissa Doyle and (very occasionally) Mark Ferguson. My point was that he’s no longer out on the road reporting and has shifted into more of a national/newsroom/studio based role which I think is a loss to the local reporting team in Sydney.
Don’t forget that they also lost Adam Walters quite recently and Chris Bath, while not a reporter, was another significant and very senior loss.
David Brown doing Sydney weather again.
