What Seven are planning to do is nothing compared to US local news where many stations (e.g., WPLG in Miami and KTLA in LA just to name two) build their identities around having very news-heavy schedules.
It’s not surprising at all when you remember the reason why The Latest a) was butchered when production moved to Perth (as spw mentioned) and b) subsequently cancelled was due to budget cuts.

Shame they dropped the live shot altogether.
I remember when Seven News in Sydney had the static shot of Sydney between 2014-16, it wasn’t very well received so they reverted to a live shot from mid-2016, which was (suspiciously) similar to what Nine News had (and still has) at the time.
Previously, ATN’s live shot between 2005-14 was that of the Harbour Bridge looking towards the east.
