Seven News Content and Appearance

Am still surprised that Seven are going to relaunch “This Afternoon Daily Edition Nine News Now The Seven Edition @3pm with Alex Cullen and Friends”.

That means that from 5am until 7pm, there will be a total of 11 hours from a possible 14 hours of news and live talk shows? Assuming that the new 3pm show will go for 2 hours as previously been discussed some time ago.

5.00: Early News
5.30: Sunrise
9.00: The Morning Show
12.00: Midday News
1.00: Reality repeats/ movie
3.00: The Afternoon Show
5.00: The Chase with further more gimmicks
6.00: News

Talk about overkill with the same genre. And imagine those slow news days when they repeat the same “cat stuck in tree” stories all day long. Riveting stuff there.

I can’t understand how they can sustain having so many different presenters hosting all these different programs in the medium to long term.

Already confirmed that 4pm news is staying.

Having said that - where’s the late news / The Latest? A glaring omission still from Seven.

Thanks for the clarification re it being an one hour show and that the 4pm News is staying.

Agree with the Late News / The Latest. Very surprised that Seven haven’t capitalised on it - especially this year - with the overrun from the AFL type shows they have, and the AFL itself on Thursday nights. Like what Nine does with their Late News leading in from the NRL and various NRL + AFL Panel shows.

Seven and Nine just about copy each other with everything else. Why not the Late News?

What would look good there would be a news ticker across the building.

Who’s down in Docklands to read it?

I have faith in the show given who the producer is. He did a great job launching ‘The Latest’.

I don’t think the 4pm local news is going anywhere.

The Collins Street precinct is busy these days. Especially near the Southern Cross Station area.

It’s been confirmed it’s staying.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they utilise the mixed use set for this programme.

Wonder if there could be a plaza out the front of their new building.

There was once a ticker than ran across the Young & Jackson building in the noughties (for some reason, when I was very young I thought this was Seven’s Melbourne studios, only to later find out their HQ was actually at Docklands).

And of course, there was a ticker that ran along their (now defunct) Martin Place studios.

That would look awesome across the base of the Collins Street Building.

Looking at Google Maps, it seems it was removed sometime between November 2007 and January 2010, although it was already off in that November capture.

It was installed around 2003. And yes, I believe it was replaced around 2008.

Is the ticker sign still attached to the former 7 Studios in Martin Place?

Not sure but I think the hardware for the ticker might be gone. I’ve been to Martin Place recently but haven’t paid attention to the upper part where it was.

I’ve been there a couple of times last year and this year.

I took a photo and it’s all gone. Probably removed in the move out of 2023.

Shortly after Channel 7 left, I wondered if they would keep it there for the sake of it but thought there wouldn’t be anyone to update it regularly.

The guard rails it sat in may or may not still be there.

Interesting… from Google Street the 7 logo on was still on the building above that NSW state badge in September 2024.
