Didn’t have worldwide transmission rights I believe.

Penrith is the first team since the great St George side of 1956-1966 to achieve the four-peat. The Panthers have secured rugby league immortality.

Rights issue?

I reckon people were spot on when they suggested both Panthers and Storm fatigue, what else explains it?

The NRL has told the Western Australian government it will not consider working with the consortium behind the Western Bears bid in a major hurdle to the game’s expansion plans.

The NRL now wants to work directly with the WA government to formulate a potential ownership model that doesn’t involve the Western Bears consortium.

The league has told North Sydney officials that its decision to cut ties with the consortium will not impact the Bears’ hopes of returning to the competition should a Perth team be introduced to the competition from as early as 2027.

  • Brisbane Broncos brand is valued at $124 million, ahead of Penrith ($108m), Souths ($73m) and NQ Cowboys ($72m)

Brisbane Broncos Leads NRL for brand value and strength

The Brisbane Broncos have reaffirmed its dominance as the number one club brand in the NRL, with a brand value of AUD124 million and the strongest brand strength score of 81. Despite not securing a premiership since 2006, the Broncos’ brand equity drives their commercial success. Since its inception in 1988, the club has remained the flagship for Queensland rugby league, bolstered by its monopoly on Brisbane’s market until the Dolphins’ arrival last year.

Wigan beat Hull 9-2 in the Super League grand final at Old Trafford, Manchester on the weekend, meaning the Warriors had become the first club to win all four major titles in one season: the World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup, League Leaders’ Shield and Super League.

Just a shame there will be no World Club Challenge next year.

It just happens that both Wigan and Penrith were announced as the teams to play in Las Vegas next March before they achieved their respective premiership victories.

But what’s to stop them from playing each other in Vegas? I also read somewhere (probably on Twitter) that the WCC should move to the end of our season, rather than the start of it.

Only three times this century has the WCC been held in Australia and on all three occasions it has immediately followed a Rugby League World Cup tournament.

But that will mean more workload for some players, and they will have to choose between playing in the World Club Challenge, or represent their own country in the Pacific Championships.
