Random TV History

I remember a ‘summer time’s time for summertime Prime’ jingle, too. I didn’t grow up in the rurals so mainly saw Prime from DX reception of Wollongong and when visiting relatives in the Central West of NSW.

‘Streets Of Your Town’ replaced ‘This Is Where We Live’ I suppose.

I was never a fan of the Prime promos from the mid to late 90s.

I preferred the early years where they modelled it on the Channel 7 promos but with the “Your Local Station” tag added in. I thought that worked well.

Stumbled across this Nine News Queensland bulletin from 2009, presented solo by Andrew Lofthouse after Melissa Downes went on maternity leave, also coinciding with QTQ getting a new set to match those seen at TCN and GTV.

After the 2008 relaunch of (National) Nine News, QTQ kept the 2006-08 version of the news theme, though used the traditional closing music (as first introduced in 2000). I wonder why they used two separate themes for the opener and closer - IIRC I did hear some commentary about it.

It wasn’t until 2012 that they started to use the standard theme as heard in Sydney and Melbourne, and which remains today.

Wikipedia continues to irritate me - they insist that referring to the DW missing episodes as “destroyed” is POV and imposed “deleted” But deleted is a post digital era term. You can delete a computer file, but you can only wipe an analogue tape or physically destroy a film reel.

Sorry, I’m a little antsier than usual today after i read a DW fic supposedly set in London in 1983 that referred to a character the Doctor meets as “watching ITV1” instead of Thames Television (9:25AM Mon-5:15PM Fri) or LWT (5:15PM Fri to 6:00AM Mon) in the London ITV region as it should have been if it is 1983.

Is this meant to be a special related to bush fires?

It looks like this video was removed. What did it contain?

Stumbled across this “Bruce Paige Remembers” segment from circa 2011. Going by the date in which this was published, this must’ve been during Heather Foord’s final weeks at Nine before she retired from news presenting altogether.

Could’ve been one of the few times that Paige and Foord were seen together on the set that existed between 2009 and 2017. This begs the question - if Nine had the opportunity, would they have paired Paige and Foord, who enjoyed so much ratings success on weeknights between 1995/6 and 2008, on weekends?

It must be remembered, Paige and Foord were broken up in the first place as QTQ overhauled its presenting roster in the wake of a second consecutive year coming second to 7NEWS Brisbane (which, in 2008, won all 40 ratings weeks in that market).

Richard Wilkins presenting Sydney NYE almost 20 years ago in 2003 for Channel 9 who were the original broadcasters of the celebrations from 1997-2005 and again from 2009-2012. 10 took over from 2006-2008 and the ABC has broadcasted every edition since 2013.

First ever broadcast of a Sydney NYE Fireworks show in 1996 on Channel 9 hosted by Richard Wilkins and Catriona Rowntree. The 9PM display was the main show before a smaller midnight display and a “Still the One” promo to welcome in 1997.
