Random Mocks

Just a quick one of a possible NBN News title card for when it moves to 5.30pm under the WIN model.

Would it use a night version of Newcastle city with the lights at dusk on during Eastern Standard Time similar to Wollongong?

Possibly, but I think the daytime one would look better anyway, in the night time one, you wouldn’t see the beach, the harbour or the mountains in the background…

So WIN News is on 9, but NBN News is on WIN? When they’re all branded on air as 9?

Today in 2027?

Stick them with TODAY EXTRA not the main show.

Don’t mind this (minus the hosts)

But there is something about the y that doesn’t look right? Maybe it looks too close to the Getaway logo?

You probably don’t need the word Australia on the graphic as we’re already in Australia.

I’d also ditch the 9news logo.

You’re talking about channels not brands on the image so go with just the Nine logo and the 9now one

This is only a mock not real.

What’s wrong with them? It’d be rather refreshing. Tim would be a great successor. It’s just a shame they never really gave him many opportunities to grow in the presenting role and for the audience to become familiar with him there.

Some alternatives in US local news now that some of them are entering a switcheroo…

These two were born during the Kimmel fiasco: some over on TVNewsTalk speculated ABC will pull affiliations from Sinclair stations as retaliation, such as Seattle. Here, ABC moves to Cox’s KIRO; KOMO becomes a news-intensive indie station (with a symbol based on their ARC local news format); and CBS takes the affiliation in house like Atlanta on KSTW.

These are DC-related: ABC acquiring channel 7 from Sinclair and adopting their network O&O graphics, and ABC moving the affiliation to Scripps’ Ion station following the recent news. I recreated the supers for both of them.

Sketching some of the possible ideas for Ten’s soon-to-be-vacant 6pm slot, based on the composite promo for metro news and News+.

The proposition is because their news comes earlier, so does the dedicated sport and entertainment news for fans, rather than waiting for the brief updates at the end of 7/9 bulletins. That slot can be under a consistent [blank] Tonight brand, porting ET to Australia in the process.

Off Topic, but if anyone is going to host ET Australia, it surely has to be ang bishop lol

With Paramount open to offloading 10, would attaching themselves to a CBS brand be sensible for moving forward?

Wouldn’t 10 also have to pay to use the name and format of ET? Wasn’t one point towards axing The Project was the cost of going through Roving Enterprises?

With on-going discussions around Network 10’s news strategy, it is interesting to imagine how a major programming shake-up could impact the network’s ratings and brand identity across the Tasman.

If 10 News expanded its 5pm bulletin to a 90 min format and paired it with a dedicated Entertainment Tonight Australia at 6pm, the strategy would introduce clear pros and cons.

On one hand, a 90 min news format allows for deeper regional coverage which could help local bulletins like Queensland build stronger community ties. Rolling directly into ET Australia - hypothetically hosted by Georgie Tunny on weeknights and Taylor Ryan on weekends, with contributions by Angela Bishop - offers a logical, light-hearted transition. It would lean heavily into 10’s historic strength in entertainment and youth-focused demographics and create a distinct alternative to the hard news hours across Seven and Nine.

On the other hand, a 90 min local news bulletin risks stretching resources thin or padding the broadcast with repetitive content. Competing directly with established powerhouse news hours at 6pm is a massive gamble, and viewers looking for traditional evening news might simply switch channels rather than stay tuned for entertainment gossip.

The hypothetical weekend changes also offer a fascinating dynamic.

If ET Australia were to be launched with Georgie Tunny hosting on weeknights, bringing in a veteran presence like Hugh Riminton alongside Scott Mackinnon on sport and Amanda Jason on weather represents a highly credible, traditional line-up. Keeping Narelda Jacobs localised for Western Australia is a smart move that respects regional audience loyalty.

Ultimately, while this ‘what if’ schedule offers a fresh alternative to the standard commercial television formula, it remains a high-stakes balance between hard news and lifestyle entertainment.

A quick logo update for News 24. Never been a huge fan of the News Corp font.

I’m not a fan of how Three & ThreeNow (NZ) don’t put the show title and the day/time on the same screen. So i’ve whipped up a basic mock to see what it would look like with all the info together.
I’ve made the Three version purple as I personally think only content exclusive to ThreeNow should use the pink and also made versions for Rush, Eden & HGTV that align with the Three branding and match the watermarks that they now have.
