I could really see WIN pulling stunts like this to try trick viewers:
Of course the programming would be different

Idea for a Southern Cross pop-up message - pretty basic design, could also be done using something closer to Nine’s presentation
Fading to
Fading to nothing
On 30 June:
Like a countdown?
Yes
I didn’t realise the change was occurring in 1999.
I don’t understand your comment
The watermark appears to be in a 4:3 safe area.
Ah, that’s what it was. Yeah, I shouldn’t have positioned it that far!
To nitpick, Australia only launched widescreen in 2001.
“Love This Region” doesn’t really roll as a tagline. Sounds awkward to me.
Should be “Love This Country”
That doesn’t make sense either. Country as in Australia (then it’s not local) or country as in “he lives in the countryside” (that’s not accurate either - Canberra, Townsville, Newcastle etc are all big cities)
I think they just need 5 second / 10 second IDs with local imagery and a VO
“You’re watching Channel Nine Canberra”
“You’re watching Channel Nine Wollongong & Illawarra”
“You’re watching Chanel Nine Townsville”
“You’re watching Channel Nine Toowoomba” etc
That would tie in nicely with the fact their LCN is No 5.
Resists making an Ayr, near Townsville joke
Yeah, Townsville is the largest city in Northern Australia, “Love this Countryside” just wouldn’t work at all.
In a market like here in Townsville for example, a “Love This City” style promo would be better than “Love this Region”, especially considering the local TV zone only extends for about 1 hours drive north and south of the city.
But in other TV markets, like the Mackay one to our south, which includes the Whitsundays, a “Love This Region” promo would be much better, as there are more than one major city areas in the region.
