That’s a very good playlist.
Well, here are my playlists from last week. Only programmed two shows as my friend aired his own shows on the other two days. Had a really nasty flu about a week ago, catching up on processing all the recorded airchecks this arvo, hope to have them up on mixcloud tonight.

Thanks for these @anonymousbroadcaster- helps knowing which of the shows are more to my taste. I landed on the ‘90s bubble pop’ one last week and couldn’t make it through the whole show
That’s the thing with eclectic music though- not everything will be to your taste. But I’d much rather be challenged than listen to the safe stuff.
Yeah, I know, the bubble pop one was a little cringeworthy, but that’s half the fun. With such a large archive of music, one can do all sorts of stuff and themes.
But trying to find a balance is rather quite tricky. You don’t want to play so much obscure stuff that nobody knows anything that your playing, yet conversely you don’t want to sound boring either, playing the same cliche shit thats been heard a thousand times on commercial radio.
We had this discussion within our small station group during a meeting, and the consensus seems to be to mix up a bunch of well known hits that have charted well with a heap of obscure material and hope you can please everybody.
Like you mentioned about the bubblegum pop 1990s show, everyone knows me for being a “pop music” lover. Any rock, blues, house, dance, country, and pubrock are genres that I like but I would classify as offshoots from my main taste, I just can’t listen to grunge, very heavy rock, heavy metal, and the Triple J kind of indie as these either give me a high blood pressure level or the worlds longest yawwwwwn.
As per the bubble pop show from the other night, quite a few of my mixed tapes were filled with this stuff back then, and they got played to death. To me, it’s music that’s upbeat, cheery, and exhuberant. Particularly as I remember the early 1990s was the time shortly after I left school where there was a lot of unemployment, and I guess in those days, it was the right kind of music that would keep me smiling when times were utterly horrid.
But yes, can definitely understand this is not everyones cup of tea, I guess the beauty of our shows on community radio is that we reflect who we are in the playlists we air, rather then the same bland “focus group” rubbish played on the corporate stations. I’m not really into 50s and 60s music, but sometimes I’ll tune into 2SSR FM to discover stuff I’ve never heard before from those decades, it’s the personal approach to community radio that makes it special.
Below is the playlist to tonights show, it will shortly appear on mixcloud. Tomorrow night I’ll be taking another dive in to mostly 70s early 80s music with another musical timewalk that will span 1972 to 1982.

Very little NZ music.
Thanks, we do have access to quite a bit of en-zed stuff, can run this as a theme one night. Sharon O Neil is one of my favourite artists, one of my favourite more obscure NZ tracks is Craig Scott “When jo jo runs”; just pure early 70s bliss. I gotta say the ultimate NZ classic is Dave and the Dynamo’s “Life begins at 40”, remember wearing the grooves out on that 7 inch back in 1983.
Was signal any better on DAB+ or does the FM 2OOO program not simulcast on DAB+ ?
Also @anonymousbroadcaster, I wasn’t referring to your program not having NZ music, I was replying to this post by @LiamP
They’re talking about a Kiwi radio station with very little NZ music, not your 2OOO shows @anonymousbroadcaster
All good, just a little confusion. ha ha.

OK yesterday’s Conga Line is now up:
BTW @anonymousbroadcaster - there are two versions of ‘Scatterlings’, one with Juluka (better version) and one with Savuka (inferior version). The Juluka version was released earlier and was the one played on KROQ Los Angeles in the 80s (where I heard it, via airchecks).
When played on 2SM around October 1983, Ray Arthur (then 2SM jock) announced it as Johnny Clegg and Juluka, it was played once, and never again. Couldn’t find it at the old Brashs at the time, so surmised it was a promo only song that was never released for the public to buy. Picked up a three CD 80s comp released by Disky at HMV around 1992, and to my lovely surprise, there it was at the end of disc three. Still to this day, have never heard it on any radio station (commercial or community) again. let lone anybody mention it until I saw it on your playlist.
When listneing to your show last night, the player rolled into your nect show, where you played Go West, Owen Paul, and another true wow moment, Mondo Rock’s “Our time”. Your back-announce at the end of that was priceless, yes, 104 2Day FM played that track as a staple during that wonderful period; October 1986, a few years before Austereo came in with their wrecking ball, with Keith Willliams, Rob McCasker, and Malcolm Paul shouting over every song.
It was played on the 2DAY FM aircheck that another member posted, as well as Go West and Owen Paul
As for ‘Scatterlings’, yes it was 1983 and it may have made the KROQ Top 106.7 for that year. The Australian jocks probably looked to stations like KROQ for new music.
You wouldn’t mind pointing me to it, search the forum today in radio history and couldn’t find it, much of that is to do with this forums horrible software, which has overrided the Ctrl F function. Thought it might have been on the radio antenna’s website, but not there either. Love hearing old 1980s 2Day airchekcs.
As per the KROQ airchecks, I did check out these last night and these weren’t bad, but doubt these are the ones your talking about.
As per the radio shows, Charles is starting to do more material now. I’m starting to take more of a backseat as my dayjob is requireing more hours where I’m just too nakid and smashed to do anything when I get home. This is one of the reasons why the mixcloud postings are getting a little delayed. Here are the playlists to the latest mixcloud additions.
