From what I’ve heard of Edge and 3NE today, it seems the former can be described as a 70’s and 80’s leaning adult contemporary format, while 3NE has more of a 50’s and 60’s leaning classic hits format.

heyitsstevo, I have not listen to The Edge for a long while, but going by that
playlist things have not change at all.

For something a bit different, here’s a log from Melbourne Christian community station Light FM.

89.9 Light FM - 9:50-10:50pm 29/12/2015

Hey Brother - Avicii
Tattoo - Jordin Sparks
Luminate - Heal This Home *
Never Forget You - Zara Larsson & MNEK
Brother - Needtobreathe *
Brave - Sara Barelilles
Longer Than A Lifetime - Sanctus Real *
Photograph - Ed Sheeran
Daylight - Remedy Drive *
What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction
Middle - DJ Snake
Can I Get A Moment? - Jessica Mauboy
Live On Forever - The Afters *
Out of the Woods - Taylor Swift

Asterisks next to artists that are generally defined as “Christian”/songs I haven’t heard mainstream stations play. None of the asterisked songs felt particularly out of place. The station sponsors including churches advertising prayer sessions, and a 30 second bible quote segment coming out of the news at 10 are about the only things that would tip off someone.

I would expect Light FM to be the highest rating and most viable commercially of the community stations - which is hardly the point…

I’d be interested if the equivalents in the other capitals are this close to the kind of music that would get a run on KIIS.

Wow, having never listened to Light FM before, it surprises me how much mainstream music is on there…

Particularly DJ Snake?!

The music format is very similar to 96five in Brisbane.

For comparison’s sake, here is the playlist from Sydney’s Christian community station, Hope 103.2, courtesy of their website: http://hope1032.com.au/music/

While I’m here, there should be more commercial music radio stations in Australia providing playlist logs on their website like there is for many overseas radio stations.

Here’s a sample 2 hours from a smooth RnB station which rates quite well in the Los Angeles market.

Southern California’s 94.7 The Wave:

Janet Jackson - Let’s Wait Awhile
Monica - Angel of Mine
Smokey Robinson - Cruisin’
Vanessa Williams - Dreamin’
Usher - Climax
Luther Vandross - Love the One You’re With
Gladys Knight, Gladys Knight & the Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia
Ashanti - Foolish
The Spinners - I’ll Be Around
Robin Thicke - Morning Sun
The System - Don’t Disturb This Groove
Sade - No Ordinary Love
The Four Tops - Ain’t No Woman Like the One I’ve Got
Beyoncé - Irreplaceable
Earth, Wind & Fire - Fantasy
Jason Derulo - Want to Want Me
Toni Braxton - Another Sad Love Song
Bill Withers - Lean on Me
Alicia Keys - Fallin’

Here’s a sample 3 hour log from a rock variety hits station in Los Angeles.

93.1 Jack FM

Nena - 99 Luftballoons
Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive

Duran Duran - Girls on Film
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
311 - Beautiful Disaster

Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

Rolling in the Deep
David Bowie - Modern Love
Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze
Weezer - Buddy Holly
John Mellencamp - Jack & Diane
Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now
Matchbox Twenty - 3 A.M.
Don Henley - The Boys of Summer
The Cure - Love Cats
Eve 6 - Inside Out
Elton John - Rocket Man
Billy Idol - White Wedding
Evanescence - Bring Me to Life
Bon Jovi - You Give Love a Bad Name
New Order - True Faith
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

The ratings improved a lot when the switch was made from smooth jazz though it still did quite well then. I believe this was the inspiration for the early versions of 4SO, later Coast FM.

Fade into countdown, and Australia is officially into 2016.

@stmookeyj - ain’t that the truth. Speaks more volumes to the fact Duncan Campbell can’t do much except steal successful breakfast shows from other networks.

He’s on the record as saying if KIIS 101.1 doesn’t work this year he’ll be “packing his bags” - they should already be packed Duncan.

Thanks for the logs - some great stuff there. And then there was 97.3… how the hell is that shit #1 or #2 survey after survey after survey? Are Brisbane listeners that thick?!

That’s interesting.

I’d been going off a mention last time I posted a 7SD/LAFM log that they shared their playlist with HOFM - but looking at the two websites it looks like they don’t, I wonder if that’s a recent change? Either way, would explain the disconnect between what I thought their format was and what it actually is.

When I did a playlist for 7HOFM & LAFM back in August 2013 (before the dispute with the PPCA forced the internet streaming of the Grant-owned stations to go off-air until it was switched back on in October 2015), they were sharing the same playlist. Here’s proof: http://www.mediaspy.org/forum/index.php?/topic/13777-radio-stations-hourly-music-logs/?view=findpost&p=963375

Speaking of Mix 94.5, their annual “Mix 600” countdown has finished yesterday, with “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi taking the top spot, with “Uptown Funk” taking the runner’s up position: http://www.mix.com.au/win/mix600/

When looking at the countdown, Mix 94.5 seems to love Pink, with “So What” taking the #8 position (from memory, I think it was in the top 5 on last year’s countdown), followed by “Who Knew” at #19 & a number of others making the countdown.

There is one reason why they have a out of place format like that and why they have so many unhappy listeners and x employees

theinsider, are you a x-employee
