Yes, Wollongong has the more similar logs of its 2 FM stations.

Some overspill from Sydney helps to compensate for that.

WaveFM’s log is so bland. This is what happens when you run network logs in a competitive market.

The same happens with Hit101.3 & Triple M Central Coast up against the Star104.5 logs.

Just like programming, music should be programmed locally to remain competitive & relevant to the market.

I should add that The Conga Line specialises in forgotten retro hits, whilst the breakfast show is a mixture of softer adult contemporary and adult alternative tracks. I try and differentiate my programming somewhat from commercial radio, and also the other presenters on the station.

I don’t care if the music is programmed locally or centrally, as long as the music is good and everything else is not terrible, then I’ll listen.

I actually didn’t mind the Hit log for Canberra, it had some good songs in there.

Channel X is a new radio station brand from Mediawork in NZ, launching yesterday at noon with 15 frequencies across the country (mostly made up of the stations that were formerly used by the ill-fated Today FM). Its playlist is veered primarily towards music from the 90s and 2000s, and is presented commercial-free 24/7, with no DJ breaks. Here’s a sample of its usual playlist from 24 hours after launch.

I was impressed with Flava, Hauraki and Niu when I was over in Auckland earlier this year , but the majority of the radio sounded average IMO, so it’s good to see a new station playing 90s and 2000s throwbacks.

TBH More FM, The Edge and The Hits sounded boring. Channel X looks miles better going from that playlist. I’ll give it a listen this week.

Triple M 2000s, KIIS 90s, Oldskool 90s and Nova Noughties / Throwbacks are better IMO but it’s a good change for NZ radio, which doesn’t seem to be innovating or playing much good music anymore , with a couple of exceptions.

I think it’s an example of the downside of the decades stations, I think I’ve heard most of those songs that are from the 2000s in that list are on the Triple M 2000s playlist - but then because they don’t step out of there, the handful of 2010s or 90s tracks don’t get played.

In particular from that list, Blister in the Sun is such a great throwback track - it does not at all to me feel “80s”, and would sound out of place on an 80s radio station, but it’d be not played on a 90s/2000s decades station, because it’s an “80s” song.

I’ve said before that I think KIIS should go with a broader “KIISTORY” station rather than KIIS 90s - giving them the flexibility for stuff like that.

I suppose 2000s can get away with it, rather than Nova’s “Noughties”, as they’ve never said it’s just the decade, it could be the century or the millennium…
