Time to head to the AEDT Timezone, and for something different it’s off to Hobart. With the old Heart FM being MMM’ified into the dull playlist that the regional MMM’s are known for (Hobart is considered regional in the MMM network, although they seemed to be local until 4PM when I was down there last), we go to a station that at least is local in more than just name.

As the last song played, the new year became a reality. No fanfare, just HAPPY NEW YEAR QUEENSLAND.
To the top end, and a station that is probably giving less attention to New Year’s Eve to almost any other for a reason that you’ll see in this log…

They then throw to a Fitzy and Wippa best of show, with the next song Bryan Adams - Thought I Died and Gone to Heaven
I agree the NYE playlists on 2Day, KIIS and Nova were pretty much their standard playlist nothing to get you excited for NYE. I remember Nova and 2Day used to play more dance mixes on NYE.
Of the commercials Hit regionals had the best playlist.
I flicked between Triple J, Sea Fm, and streamed Radio 1 and Slam Fm Netherlands who had some good 2018 mixes.
Later this morning I will stream Radio 1 in the lead up to their New Years Day.
Haven’t listened to the next station on the list since it was KIIS’ified, but perhaps on this night it may be worth revisiting. To complete the Australian leg of the journey it’s time to go to Perth.

The countdown was only 10 seconds rather than a minute on many other nationwide stations. Bit of guitar Auld Lang Syne brought in the New Year. Dragon - Celebration was the first song played following 3 minutes of the guitar solo.
If this list is similar or exactly what the KIIS stations around the other metro stations had, feel free to indicate this. Seems to me to see out the year with a reasonably slow Phil Collins song is odd when in past years they’ve gone with songs like The Final Countdown or Celebration. Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR WESTERN AUSTRALIA.
I may be awake early enough to do a South African log, we shall see how much energy I have or how well I respond to alarms. I have to be up by about 6:00 AEST to time it so I can log about 90 minutes.
???
Owned and operated by Grant Broadcasters, is as Networked as the others.
Also, Triple M had Brett Marley on between 6pm-midnight NYE, he’s as local as they come.
Had a listen to Edge 102.5 today to note down a log and to also see how appalling it really is:
Edge 102.5, Deniliquin ’Better Music And More Of It’ (certainly debatable) 18th January 2019 4:00pm - 5:00pm (AEDT)
Stay - Rihanna/Mikky Ekko
Whatta Man - Salt-N-Pepa
A Million Dreams - Pink
Sunsets - Powderfinger
Coming Home - Sheppard
That's When I Think Of You - 1927
Shut Up & Dance - Walk The Moon (wish this song could die)
Walk Alone - Rudimental/Tom Walker
Killing Me Softly - Fugees
Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
Never Be The Same - Camila Cabello
Hot In Here - Nelly (thought I had just tuned into 'R&B Fridays' on the Hit Network)
The playlist is worse than I expected with a lot of safe music, despite my extremely low initial expectations. Certainly a lot of pop music featured in the playlist, the only song which I enjoyed was the Powderfinger number.
Yeah, that’s definitely an ordinary playlist! I would have just given up on doing the music log and switched stations, lol.
“Sunsets” is an interesting choice of song. If the station wanted to play a Powderfinger song, i’m surprised that they didn’t go with “My Happiness” or “Baby I’ve Got You (On My Mind)” instead!
Amazingly, i’ve still got the station on right now! I was actually getting irritated near the end, so I put on some decent music on YouTube, pausing when another song came on the radio and noted it down! Thankfully did not miss any songs.
Sunsets is a very Triple M song, have heard it a few times on MMM Melbourne. Was quite pleased to hear it again, always takes me back to the mid 2000s! It probably wouldn’t be played on regional MMM up here though, the playlist is quite poor and bland.
I’ll see whether I can get a log of MMM Goulburn Valley before I go back to Melbourne on Sunday.
I agree, it’s a shocker.
This is why I pull my business add off the radio when ACE took over.
They will not listen to anyone’s feedback. All I got told is their so called programmers have done their research and they said this is the music that everyone wants to listen too

Few Observations: One Kiss was played at around a similar time on KIIS as it was on Nova, same goes for Loud Luxury’s Body. Nonetheless, any thoughts?
I talked about this in the Nova thread late last week and this is a continuation of this. What’s worse, Fitzy and Wippa also played both those songs between 6am and 7am this morning.
They’re playing music from six months ago. The Edge has about twenty new songs that they’ve been playing in the past two weeks. I think Nova plays about three of them and will probably be playing half a dozen more in about three months time.
They’re no longer the place where new music breaks. They will only play new music from tried and tested artists like Sam Smith and Ariana Grande. They won’t play anything that’s a bit different like David Guetta/Bebe Rexha, DJ Snake and Rufus Du Sol.
Exactly, it’s so frustrating, almost as frustrating as these comments:
That is simply an excuse radio execs make up so they can play ‘Greatest Hits’ or ‘Old School Anthems’, we don’t want that… and I was only using the Top 40 as a generalisation. What I really mean is, cut out the constant repetition of Old School and Greatest Hits, and replace those songs with the Top 80 on the ARIA chart or something like that. Because currently only half or less than half of those Top 80 songs are getting played because the other half aren’t from ‘mainstream artists’!
