Paramount Australia & New Zealand

I think everyone is in agreement that 10 is in dire straits. And whilst I think they average TV viewer would not notice if 10 closed down permanently, it would be a very sad day for broadcasting in this country if it did.

What could happen (pure speculation here) is that 10 shuts down all of its operations outside of Sydney, have one national bulletin at 5pm and one advertising feed for the whole country. One or two of its multi-channels could go.

Also, if 10 was to go off air, you’ll have SCA, WIN and all the Joint Venture companies having to find something to broadcast.

It would be the absolute very last resort for 10 to disappear. They would do all they can to keep it going and if that means running it as leanly as possible, then so be it.

Probably news would be cut completely or Murdoch/Gordon buys it cheap and gets their way of Sky News producing 10 and WIN News with Sky as a free to air multichannel in metro markets. All speculation here.

That’s what I’m currently thinking… something doesn’t seem right at the moment. Going to be an interesting 6 months.

Another speculative scenario for what it’s worth:
Maybe Paramount will decide to shut down its streamer entirely and pull out of the country given its lack of sporting rights and 10 will be up for sale again - might not be the worst outcome.

Does anyone know how P+ is doing? Have they built/are they confident they will maintain subscriptions to where they need them or will they just cut their losses and walk away without any mainstream sport?

This is the most likely scenario rather than just “not operating after June this year”. Sell it off if they seriously aren’t interested in 10 anymore.

Agreed. The tweet refers to “Paramount Networks UK” (err UK?) and is also from an account that has just resurfaced after being banned for a week. Their content is err not great at times. It’ll be absolute nonsense.

10 and Channel 5 (UK) are managed by Paramount Networks UK & Australia

It’ll still be operational… but the question will be in what form?

Also, cost cutting is usually a form of making an asset more appealing to a buyer. Hence another reason, why ATV could be shut down.

Sorry, we’re doing this speculation based on a baseless tweet?

TV side of this forum has gone to the dogs.

No you’re wrong, clearly ATV is going to be shut down because that makes complete sense.

Could they finally be moving out of the Como building?

Rent might be getting up there these days but always seemed to work for them in terms of nearby accommodation etc.

This article stating:

  • Despite no sport 10 in a strong position and has returned to profit.
  • “Ten said it will report circa $100 million in underlying earnings and more than $330 million in profit for 2021.”
  • “Those figures would represent a significant turnaround for Ten, which posted a $221.8 million loss in 2019 and a $3.4 million loss in 2020”
  • They argue they’re making money without having sport given the expense of rights and production.
  • They also say that despite the lower total people numbers people and analysts are not looking at the total picture that includes free to air, 10 play and Paramkiubt+
  • Paramount+ said to have around 1.1 million subscribers according to Telsyte.
  • There’s $20b pipeline of content coming through globally from Paramount.
  • Both reject the notion that they’re free to air is going to be sold off citing similar arrangements in UK, Israel and other territories that have a free and streaming combo for the company.
  • Global heads will be visiting Australia in Feb.

So many different figures. If this is indeed the case, then Murdoch’s media was spreading bullshit about limited reach. 1.1m is close to the Kayo number of 1.3m

Bet this counts P+ subscriptions through Amazon Prime though (which presumably wouldn’t have had access to cricket/AFL)

Presumably PANZ would have been able to able to show numbers that dispelled that then.
