Ten Network & Paramount+ 2023

Because the highest rating part of Studio 10 has been between 10am and midday.

the network is making a profit for Paramount under her leadership, so I guess not

Not that I am doubting what you are saying, but why were we hearing speculation in December 2022 about the possibility of Ten either being sold or being axed altogether?

Because it’s the daily mail.

Because the Daily Mail likes a good clickbait headline and you were sucked in by it.

Here’s the source: Paramount Australia & New Zealand - #3665 by cmo

That was a s*** Daily Mail clickbait headline.

Ah, the Daily Mail “never worry about the truth when you can make up a clickbait headline” should be their motto.

Ten wouldn’t close, unfortunately if things get desperate for Paramount I have a feeling News Corp would try to buy it on the cheap to advance their right wing Sky News. I really hope it never comes to that.

Ten said it will report circa $100 million in underlying earnings and more than $330 million in profit for 2021.

Those figures would represent a significant turnaround for Ten, which posted a $221.8 million loss in 2019 and a $3.4 million loss in 2020

vs Ten’s spin doctors. Pretty evenly matched.

How do program rights work? When a channel ‘rests’ a program, does this mean it technically is in the market to be poached?

In the absence of any huge noisy international new formats, this surely has to be the shopping ground for ten?!? Pick on some formats that the other networks are yet to confirm.
AGT
Beauty and the geek
Celeb apprentice
house rules
Ninja
X factor
Even revisit their own like shark tank?

Yes I know that this is not innovative in any way but desperate times….and some familiar formats done with a ten spin could help them strengthen their 50 week schedule.

These two are the only options from that list that 10 would only consider if they went down that path. All the rest are completely mismatched when it comes to the demos 10 target.

It’s a really complicated area!

This is my understanding and may not be completely accurate:

Some program formats are owned by the production companies themselves - so for example, Banijay (Formerly the Shine group / Endemol Shine / Endemol) own the rights to Masterchef, Survivor, Lego Masters and Big Brother (along with a heap of others). Fremantle [media] own the rights to almost any game show made in America that has had an Australian version (Price is Right, Family Feud, etc) as well as American Idol.

These companies basically get paid for the recipe book to producing the show - logo and naming rights, music, etc. They can also be paid to help produce the program, hiring the crew and making the show for the TV network. Or the TV network can go on and produce it themselves.

So, depending on the agreement reached between the company, either party can "own " the output of the show.

If a show is “rested”, but the TV network have paid to hold the recipe book for a certain duration, they hold exclusive rights to the show, so other networks can’t bring it back.
If a show is “rested”, but the TV network doesn’t want to fork out the cost of holding that retainer, then any other network can jump in and take it.

My belief is that the retention of the title went extinct with the studio exclusive contracts a few years ago.

If it’s not being held, 10 should get Ninja it’s a great format

and who are Tens demos? Does anyone know anymore? They moved Neighbours to 11 (now known as 10Peach) in 2011 to target older audiences by screening news programming from 5pm til 7:30pm. They continue to do this now (yes even the left leaning The Project is still technically news, just)

Heres an idea to take on Married etc, Dating with Joel. Loosely based on Perfect Match and Blind Date style shows with a no holds barred interview with one of the couples that went on a weekend away (or a date night). This could air at 7:30pm or 8:30pm as either a short run series or as a filler if they need it for shorter run series

Sorry but something like that would be crushed into pieces by Married. Would do worse than what Survivor/Idol is currently doing.

Under 50s. The Project is a panel show aimed at younger people and their realities usually skew younger than other networks.

Ten are a distant fourth at best on any night, so its either keep with low budget pointless viewing (that sums up all of Tens viewing and my suggestion is based on that stupidity in programming) or spend big and make something decent.

I think Ten should more away from reality at 7:30pm to give it a sporting chance. ABC airs programs that are not in the reality genre and do pretty well

really?? are you sure about this. The Project is one show. A lot of older people watch Studio 10 with is a similar format. I think Ten are struggling to find an audience in any demographic. Regional networks affiliated to 10 have given up on Kids programming, hence why places like Newcastle havent got 10Shake

ABC comes a distant 4th in 25-54 which is where the money is made. Outside of news 6-730 10 is a can often often be in 2nd place in 25-54

10 sells and programs to 25-54
