Thought this would be saved for next year’s new season lineup.

Don’t think TVNZ operates in that way anymore (of saving content for a new year etc)

The final reading for a bill which will allow NZ channels to broadcast commercials on Sunday mornings will be voted upon next week, after an attempted vote today was called off due to an absence of MPs.

Fair enough, seems a waste to have it air in November especially with Daylight Savings.

And dunno if it seems to be wasted to air in Christmas time, but you would know how.

Im going to miss not having ads on Good Friday and Christmas Day.

An antiquated rule that should have been gone 25 years ago, probably.

There was something quaint about not having ads on Xmas Day but it’s made less and less sense in recent years.

So you are fine with being bombarded with ads 24-7? Surely we should be able to have at least one day or one channel where we dont have to put up with ads 24-7. Does everything have to be commercialised?

I very rarely watch linear TV but if I watch streaming on those days, I get ads. If I check the news online on those days, I get ads. If I check social media on those days, I get ads. If I visit Mediaspy on those days, you guessed it.

Singling out broadcast TV for this no longer makes sense.

To achieve that, you’d have to turn One into a format similar to ABC Australia for no ads. It would probably see it shift away from airing as many expensive imported shows. Three is hanging on by a thread and needs as much ad revenue it can get. I know it’s not long but any extra ads on air will help Three. There’s are ads everywhere you look and unfortunately they are needed otherwise much of what people like to watch wouldn’t be able to be made.

Im sorry and I may be old fashioned, maybe even ‘communist’, but I kinda like to have at least somewhere where I gont get bombarded with ads all the time.

All heil the commercial imperative.

:police_car_light:: After a bill being passed to Parliament today, television advertisements in New Zealand will be allowed to screen on Sunday mornings and public holidays like Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

I’m guessing Q+A will no longer have long form interviews. Maybe Breakfast can air on Sundays as well with a major sponsor to keep it afloat.

The Voice Australia season 14 premieres on TVNZ 2 on Wednesday, October 29, at 7.30pm, initially with one episode per week. New judges this year are Richard Marx and Melanie C, while Ronan Keating returns as judge after an eight-season hiatus.

Of interest to NZ viewers will be Christchurch-born Cassie Henderson, who has auditioned for the show. She reached the quarter-final of The X Factor NZ in 2013, when she was just 14.

The season was filmed at Sydney’s Carrigeworks from February to April this year.

EDIT: as the result of The Voice Australia’s return, MKR on TVNZ 2 will be cut back to two episodes per week from October 27, airing on Monday and Tuesday nights. From that date, each episode will be shown one week after the Australian broadcast.
