Jacinta and Jordan’s measuring fail

Dream Home couple forced to change kitchen plans

Tonight on Dream Home: Jacinta and Jordan’s kitchen measurements didn’t add up, while Lara and Peter’s living room footprint continued to shrink before their eyes.

Renovation rookies Brad and Mel tackled the bathroom and main bedroom, deciding to change the bathroom layout and make the toilet a separate powder room. The new layout stole space from the unallocated study, sparking some concern among the other teams

As Brad and Mel excitedly continued with their build, they realised the stone behind their toilet was too long. They’d need to move the wall further back to accommodate it, leaving just 1500mm for the study.

With Elle’s brief for a “grand and showstopping kitchen” front of mind, Queensland brothers Rhys and Liam were busy installing a curved wall in the kitchen when Rhys, who had left his two-week-old son at home to compete, decided he needed to head home for a day, leaving Liam in charge.

Adding to their space woes, NSW couple Lara and Peter discovered that Rhys and Liam’s island bench was three metres long and one metre wide. To make room for the brothers’ massive bench, they had to concede two metres of their living room footprint.

With the re-stumping complete, Taeler and Elle and Hannah and Jonny returned to work on the site.

But with the extension put on hold during the re-stumping, Jordan and Jacinta – in charge of the kitchen and dining areas – had to use sticks in the dirt to draw out their plans. This move backfired when their installed kitchen cabinets didn’t match up. With no time to change the cabinets, Jacinta and Jordan had to adapt the rest of the kitchen to make them fit, killing Jacinta’s dream of having the island bench to be symmetrical to the window.

Allocated the main bathroom with a brief of “functionality for six people”, Taeler and Elle opted to create three areas – a double vanity in the centre, a toilet to the left, and a shower to the right.

The pair also included a secret door to the bathroom from 16-year-old Spencer’s bedroom, which Jacinta considered “a little weird.”

Tomorrow night on Dream Home: The countdown to the very first Dream Home room reveals is on, and the six teams are hard at work renovating Elle’s house in Watsonia, and Brad and Mel’s home in Northcote. And with only four days left until judging, the pressure is on.

This means that this will be at least 6 weeks long, Two houses per fortnight. Who knows how long it will air after that. Will we see a “garden week”, perhaps a “redemption week” to fix up low scoring rooms, or to fix the rooms they haven’t shown in these 6 weeks?

Dream home down quite a bit last night, 3rd in time slot and competing closely with The Summit for 4th spot.

As expected, I don’t think anyone thought that it would maintain the audience that tuned it Sunday given it reached 2.3mill but averaged 0.95mill.

In the 5 city market the show had 387,000 to be 25k ahead of The Summit.

This time last year, Seven was recovering from the flop that was Blow Up waiting for the next flop of Million Dollar Island to start, so this result is an improvement on then.

Quite shocking for Seven that this is some sort of ‘improvement’. I guess The Summit being a bigger flop probably helps.

What did it do on Sunday for the 5city

Known. Data wasn’t available.

7-8 weeks sound more like it.

Timeslot growth will be important, though it’s still a pretty average result.

Except Dream Home probably cost ten times more to make.

There’s probably some hope to recover with the room and whole house reveal eps.

Given this is a clone of House Rules, you would expect those eps to rate.

But I thought Seven were all about timeslow growth?

The room reveals are THIS Sunday, rather than next Sunday.

The show ended tonight with a super long promo for Sunday’s show.

Having “Mon | Tue” on the screen like this throughout the whole promo is new…I think…

So lost 180k in 5city while nationally it lost 330k

Hannah and Jonny floored

Dream Home team rush to replace floorboards before reveals

Tonight on Dream Home: Victorian sisters Taeler and Elle hit peak frustration with their tradies, while Queensland’s Hannah and Jonny suffered a major flooring setback on top of their already delayed timelines.

With three days to go, Brad and Mel underestimated the timeline their various trades would need. They still had to waterproof, plaster, and plumb their bathroom and powder room before they could start painting. Brad and Mel’s tradies worked hard into the night to install their bath. But it was an extremely snug fit, with the bath nestled tightly against the vanity.

Lara was excited to see her living room fireplace arrive but continued to regret handing over two metres to Rhys and Liam for the kitchen, worried her furniture wouldn’t fit in the space.

Meanwhile, Rhys and Liam’s state of the art invisible cooktop was installed, and the brothers considered it a game-changer, guaranteed to score them points from the judges.

Feeling the pressure of the competition, Taeler and Elle grew frustrated with their builder, Luca, who was talking to Jacinta about her work as a brow specialist instead of installing the bedhead she needed in 16-year-old Spencer’s bedroom.

With the back extension still incomplete, Hannah and Jonny experienced major knock-on effects with their timelines but were determined to deliver their ambitious living room for Brad and Mel. The husband-and-wife team was making good progress at the front of the house on 18-year-old Bennet’s room when Jonny noticed the floorboards were bouncing heavily and would need to be replaced.

With just two days until room reveals, Jordan and Jacinta realised all their efforts had gone into the kitchen, and worried that their dining space might disappoint the judges.

Sunday night on Dream Home: The reveals are here! After weeks of blood, sweat and paint at Watsonia and Northcote, it all comes down to the judging. Leading the charge is expert Three Birds Renovator Lana Taylor, alongside award-winning Interior Designer Rosie Morley, and one of Australia’s biggest buyers’ agents Simon Cohen.

Dream Home 7.00pm Sunday, continuing 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus

So from the promo, am I correct in understanding that they’re not revealing all rooms on Sunday night?
