Dream Home

Only the rooms that were built. I assume they will get another 1 week to finish the non-allocated rooms in the house and everything would be revealed the following Sunday?

You can see from the promo that each team was blindfolded, and carefully led through the corridor by Dr Chris, so the team couldn’t see the rooms that had not been renovated yet.

Is this to create more reveal episodes?

Looks like it.

Assuming that all Sundays will be the “Room Reveal” episodes. Two houses a fortnight (both get half a house done per week)?

I’m surprised Seven are keeping this on Sundays, given the ratings collapse and what Guides has been doing… They’ll surely lose easy.

Maybe they think ‘ah whatever’, as Sunday special AFL the following week and then DWTS?

I think they are expecting the usual pattern that The Block shows to be mirrored by Dream Homes with the Sunday reveal episodes rating much better than the rest of the week.

If this Sunday fails & with the AFL the following Sunday (I’m guessing a split schedule), 7 can probably start DWTS from June 16th

You prefer a knee jerk reaction and rejig the schedule without even giving a show at least a week to settle in? I’m not a fan of this copy cat show but if they did that with every show, then everything would be axed without a chance.

Incredible Dream Home reveals start Sunday

Which team will claim the top spot on the leaderboard?

This is what you’ve been waiting for. The incredible Dream Home reveals are here!

After weeks of gruelling renovations, the Dream Home teams will present their first finished rooms for judging this Sunday, 7.00pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Expert judges Simon Cohen, Rosie Morley and Lana Taylor will critique the stunning transformations of Brad and Mel’s Northcote home and Taeler and Elle’s Watsonia home.

As a judge, Lana will be looking for rooms that immediately make her feel good. “If there is no feeling, they’ve missed the mark. The feel-good factor usually comes from a cohesive design where all the elements in the space are working well together.”

Simon adds: “I’ll be looking to see if they hit the brief, how creative they were and how liveable their created spaces are.”

Don’t miss the incredible emotion and utter disbelief as contestants see their renovated dream homes for the first time.

Dream Home 7.00pm Sunday, continuing 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus

House Rules also built significantly for its reveal episodes.

I’d run with this through until the Olympics.

If they are smart… DWTS should be after the Olympics with The Voice. Also spreads your Dr Chris shows.

Watched a bit of it. Really just comes across as rinse and repeat like the predecessors. Bit of fake orchestrated emotional drama built into it. Got a bit bored and stopped half way. My only concern with this one would be larger budgets. The bar would be high going to market with advertisers for this one, I bet they had a fairly large number in it.

Give it a season or two and it will probably disappear like the other shows.

Just saw my recording of episode 2 and 3 this morning. Given the building period now stretched to 17 days, each segment of the episode was only able to cover 1 or 2 incidents that happened during the day, leaving so much footage on the cutting room floor.

I also noticed that the Mr Cabinets logo could be seen on the kitchen cabinet at Elle’s house in episode 2, but in episode 3 its logo on the bathroom wall was blurred out. Not sure why, given Mr Cabinets was one of the show’s suppliers.

For the record, the converted church residence where Dr Chris and the judges met all six teams is The Courtyard House at 6 Oxford Street, Collingwood, just off Victoria Parade in inner Melbourne.

The group photo was taken on the lounge near the front of the converted church (see press release above).

The converted church residence do look great. I like these sorts of places.

Some networks milk their reality shows, and over-stretch their running times each night, and by many weeks. Having the 2.5 week build time air into two (plus launch night?) episodes does seem a little rushed. Could Seven have aired some episodes on Wednesdays and air the filler 1% Club UK once Dream House finishes up, to fill in more content?

That’s odd. I wonder why they had it there one night and not the other. Strange.

I’m not sure I like the teams whose house is being renovated gets to hear the feedback. They should have had house 1 get feedback then house 2.

This way the 2 homeowner teams would be completely surprised when they go into their house, now Brad & Mel knows they have an upstairs & downstairs, a fireplace, 2 sinks in the bathroom etc.

Tradie brothers nail it!

Rhys and Liam claim top spot on the Dream Home leaderboard

Tonight on Dream Home: After weeks of blood, sweat and paint fumes, Dream Home judges Lana Taylor, Simon Cohen and Rosie Morley critiqued the first cycle of renovated rooms before awarding Queensland brothers, Rhys and Liam, the win with a score of 26/30.

At Elle’s Watsonia house, the judges headed first to Rhys and Liam’s dining room and kitchen spaces. The judges agreed the brothers had delivered on Elle’s “show-stopping” kitchen brief and were in awe of the island bench and the magic of the invisible cooktop. They also loved the curved wall to the butler’s pantry, but Lana questioned if an additional sink and dishwasher should have been included.

Inspecting Lara and Peter’s living room and guest bedroom, the judges were impressed by the new living space, with Simon saying it added value to the house. While they liked the chosen colour palette, the judges agreed the space felt tight, particularly with the size of the TV. The judges were thrilled with Lara and Peter’s bedroom. Lana said the curved walls and ceiling were the standouts of the space. Rosie was equally impressed by the joinery, which made the room feel expensive.

Rookie renovators Brad and Mel’s bedroom and main bathroom spaces received mixed feedback from the judges. Despite being a compact space, the judges said the bedroom’s colour palette was warm and welcoming. Rosie was less impressed by the style of the bathroom, and Simon said some of the features were a little dated.

Over at Brad and Mel’s house, the judges praised Hannah and Jonny’s use of space in the living room and loved the large sofa, which could accommodate a large family of six. Simon said the fireplace was a great focal point for the room, and from a value-added perspective, the room was a game-changer.

Hannah and Jonny’s second room belonged to 18-year-old Bennett. Simon said it was an epic room. The judging trio loved the built-in simple desk, and Rosie said the arch created a great focus.

Sisters Taeler and Elle were assigned Spencer’s bedroom and the main bathroom. The judges loved the new bedroom, and Lana was thrilled to see the reconstructed rose ceiling feature as an ode to the building’s heritage. But Lana questioned whether the understated room had enough edge for a teenager.

Simon was happy to see the inclusion of a desk and the wardrobe space, but the judges were shocked to find that one door led to the bathroom and questioned if it was a wise design choice. In the bathroom, the judges were happy to see the bountiful storage and double sinks. The judges questioned if Taeler and Elle could have made two bathrooms from their space: one for the girls and one for the boys. Or even separate the toilet from the main bathroom.

The judges were impressed by the layout of Jacinta and Jordan’s kitchen and dining area. Rosie loved the scale of the island bench and the window splashback. Simon said it was a great hangout area for a large family, but he didn’t love the colour palette and questioned using different colours for cupboards on either side of the kitchen. Simon was bored by the couple’s dining area. Rosie said it was a missed opportunity as they could have built-in shelving to create depth and more space.

Delivering their scores, the judges announced Rhys and Liam as winners of this week’s challenge with a total score of 26/30. The brothers pocketed $5000 to go towards next week’s budget and another $5000 to spend on trades.

Lana Taylor Rosie Morley Simon Cohen Total
Rhys and Liam 8.5 9 8.5 26
Taeler and Elle 8.5 8 8 24.5
Hannah and Jonny 8 7.5 8 23.5
Jacinta and Jordan 8 7 8 23
Lara and Peter 8 7.5 7 22.5
Brad and Mel 7 6.5 6.5 20

Tomorrow on Dream Home: Don’t miss the incredibly emotional scenes as homeowners Taeler and Elle and Brad and Mel see their stunningly transformed homes for the first time.

I think having the homeowners hearing judges’ comments built up their anticipation of what their newly renovated home would look like. That’s one point of difference between it and House Rules.

It was actually tonight’s first judges reveal episode. The dedication was shown between the end of the episode and the preview of tomorrow’s homeowners reveal.

But wasn’t the reveal to the house owners one of the best parts of House Rules? It is spoilt by all the critiques and now they will be looking at all negatives from the judges rather than making their own mind up.

LG has set up a mini-site to promote its product integration into each of the six renovated homes. It also started a competition in which you can win one of two $15,000 home makeovers, including $10,000 worth of LG appliances, a $3,000 Freedom Furniture gift card, and a $2,000 digital interior design consultation with Kate Lawrence Interiors. Competition closes on July 31.

I stopped watching Dream Home halfway through the first ep but how is it shaping up? Is it going to be a flop or a success do you reckon?

I suspect it’s going to have similar ratings to House Rules so not a flop but not huge eithrr.
