Dream Home

I have seen stuff on Twitter where people thought it was surprising and fixing houses and not the contestants homes etc

Being s stripped show, i kind of expected it to be the contestants renovating each others houses. If it was just a weekly version. then different story.

No surprises that there are sponsors shown on screen.

Also the houses weren’t fully divided between the teams with some areas not allocated. I assume those would be done after the first 2.5 weeks of building?

Having seen limited promos for this, this is exactly what I was expecting too.

I noticed that too. And there was no explanation for these rooms either. Might be done in the “final weeks” do decide a winner, perhaps? Or would the final week been spent doing the gardens?

Dreams turn to chaos

Dream Home teams stumped by site shutdown

Tonight on Dream Home: A site shutdown threw teams into chaos; Queensland tradie brothers, Rhys and Liam, pulled off a cunning negotiation, while Victorian sisters, Taeler and Ellie, showed their hand as fierce competitors.

Taeler and Ellie’s House (Watsonia): The teams listened intently to Taelar and Ellie’s detailed design brief: natural materials, textures and tones to create a modern 70s aesthetic with bold gestures. With the budget divided evenly between them, the teams then decided who would take on which rooms in Ellie’s 1960s merchant builder home.

Brothers Rhys and Liam were allocated the kitchen, dining, pantry and laundry areas, while NSW husband and wife team, Lara and Peter, took bedroom two and the living area. The married couple haphazardly conceded two metres for Rhys and Liam’s dining area, a decision they immediately regretted.

Rookie renovators and parents of four teenagers, Brad and Mel from Victoria, chose the bathroom and main bedroom, but struggled to measure up both areas.

Brad and Mel’s house (Northcote): With four teenage children, Brad and Mel’s design brief centred on functionality for a family of six. The couple currently slept in a room off the dining room with no wall in between, and the family shared one bathroom.

Queensland’s Hannah and Jonny, new parents of twins, chose to renovate the living area and bedroom two. Sisters Taeler and Ellie chose bedroom four and the bathroom, while married NSW couple Jacinta and Jordan, took on the dining and kitchen areas.

With Brad and Mel’s sons’ bedrooms at the front of the house, Hannah and Taeler agreed to matching block-out blinds to keep the appearance consistent. But Taeler wasn’t happy with Hannah’s blind choice and opted to make a completely different selection.

She said it was fine to be different because the backing of both curtains would be white. But when Taeler returned to the house, Hannah asked her which option she’d selected, and Taeler opted to play vague. She said she couldn’t remember which blind she chose, leaving Hannah annoyed at her evasiveness.

As renovations progressed, it was discovered that the back half of Brad and Mel’s 73-year-old property was lower than the front. The house needed to be re-stumped, and the site was shut down to accommodate the work. But with only 10 days to deliver their rooms, the teams started to panic.

Tomorrow night on Dream Home: With one week to go before the epic reveals of two Victorian Dream Home renovations, the pressure of creating someone else’s forever home proves too much for some teams.

Dream Home Continues 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus

The first episode of Dream Home reminds me of House Rules a lot, but I think this show is different from HR because of several factors:

The six teams are divided into two groups of three, with each house being renovated by three teams
There are no set rules by the owners, only concepts
Each house will get a massive extension, or be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up
The renovation period is 2.5 weeks (17 days) instead of seven days

Yeah I don’t think the minor details are enough for people to not compare this to House Rules.

As I said previously, it’s the same just under a different name, host and production company.

More of the same from Seven.

Do Seven think that recap sells the show - makes it sound incredibly dull and the same old crap House Rules fell into with fake drama constructed from minor situations.

The first room reveals will be shown next Sunday.

The judges tour the finished spaces at Ellie’s Watsonia and Brad and Mel’s Northcote homes. All couples come face to face with the experts for the first time in the competition, for feedback and scores.

If the judges really have the social media following that was mentioned during last night’s episode, this show should be a success. They should be cross promoting. One was said to have a million followers.

Social media following ≠ success. Viewers can smell a turd a mile away.

Lana Taylor’s Three Birds Renovations page does have 1 million followers, though highly likely a decent portion of them are not in Australia.

Her own personal page has less than 5000 followers, not much of a platform to promote it from. Rosie has about the same, Simon has close to 50k.

After watching DH for a bit it’s 99.9% the same to House Rules everything from camera shots to voiceovers to style graphics on and on and on its just HR rebooted under a different name

And who was of the assumption it was not going to be exactly like House Rules?

I don’t get why everyone is so shocked about it.

Another example from socials about people thoughts on the show

I think people who saw the promo weren’t expecting it to be a renovation show, more like what TV Cynic said above, surprise renovations for people etc

Who ever said they were struggling families though?

You can still have a shit house in need of a reno and it be worth a couple of mil. Particularly in the east coast capitals.

And it is beyond belief to me that anyone seriously thought that Dream Home, a show with 6 couples, 3 judges and a star network host would not be a renovation reality show.

All fool you if you thought it was a ‘surprise renovation’ show. Whatever that means.

I agree but if people saw just this first promo, they wouldn’t know it’s a similar concept to house rules etc

But if people actually think about it then they should have known it’s a reality tv building competition as tv networks wouldn’t be doing shows that build houses for people :joy:

Who cares what we thought we were getting versus what we got?
Just watched it and it’s bland. Boring. And I don’t think Chris is suited to this. Way too long. Will reserve final judgement though until I see the judges in actio.

Brad Pinto and wife Mel were on The Morning Show this morning.
