Even in the late 1990s, early 2000s, it was normal for SBS to have a siesta of 30 or 60 minutes.

Channel 9 didn’t start broadcasting until 11.00am.

And The Young And The Restless was on 10 in Adeladie where Channel 9 broadcasted it in other cities. Wonder Reason why?

Nine in Adelaide might have knocked it back, and at the time Channel 10 Adelaide was owned by Channel 7 in Perth and so it’s possible they bought TY&TR for both their Adelaide and Perth stations.

Does Not get more complex as this with Eastern Cities easily owned by their own stations airing same programmes on the same networks, but Adelaide and Perth their programme rights does not always be on the same licensing deal with under different ownership with their Network programming like The Young And The Restless and other stuff

in those days there were also differences between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, especially on the Seven and 0/10 stations. The Nines were a little more uniform, largely due to the Packers owning Nine in both Sydney and Melbourne, but there were rare differences even between those two stations sometimes. TV stations were a lot more autonomous in making programming decisions on those days and network structures were not as rigid as they are now. If a certain network station didn’t want to buy a program it ran the risk of being picked up by a competitor even if it differed to network partners in other cities.

We could watch the moon landing live in 1969 but in 1970 we couldn’t get direct coverage of the Commonwealth Games from Edinburgh.
