19 July 1980: The Seven Network commences its exclusive coverage of the 1980 Olympic Games from Moscow. It is the first time an Australian network has claimed exclusive television rights. Seven was reported to have paid $1 million in 1977 for the rights, outbidding rival offers from ABC and Nine.
