@PaddyTePou WTV Local News is only airing in Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown, Whangarei and Tauranga only.

@AK_NEWS And what will replace WTV Local News in other areas (from 6-6.30pm)?

BBC News direct from our satellite in London

What about ABC World News Tonight (via satellite through ABC America)?

You mean the 10pm bulletin (i.e. BBC News at Ten) as seen on BBC One throughout Britain? And what about commercial breaks, anyway?

Yep. Screening at 6 in all places except Dunedin, Tauranga, Christchurch, Queenstown and Whangarei

Because WTV is fully funded by advertising revenue, PBS Newshour broadcasts on public television stations across the United States and does not include commercial breaks.

In place of Millionaire Hot Seat, I amended the WTV One schedule to include a replay of WTV News: Afternoon Edition at 5pm (instead of 4.30pm) with BBC News to follow at 5.30pm and PTV Local News at 6pm. The Chase Australia will remain at 4pm.

As a founder of PTV Network as a fictional broadcaster and a ‘rival’ to WTV, I have some notes (in regard to news and current affairs programming) to share with you.

Good Morning Aotearoa
Over on PTV1, PTV News Today is anchored by Wendy Petrie. The early morning edition of PTV News - which runs from 6-8.30am Monday to Friday - covers the latest local, national and international news, overnight developments, sport, business and weather information. It concentrates more on the important stories that happened overnight and what is likely to make news in the day ahead.

While PTV News Today is a ‘serious, no frills morning news programme for New Zealanders who want to start their day fully informed’, WTV’s Good Morning Aotearoa is modelled on more popular breakfast television shows, such as ABC’s Good Morning America and ITV’s Good Morning Britain (and, of course, Network 10’s Good Morning Australia which ran from 1981 to 1992 in its original format), and catered for those who want a lighter style concentrating mainly on human interest, showbiz and entertainment. These are in addition to half hourly news, sports and weather updates, and interviews with newsmakers.

Whereas PTV News Today finishes at 8.30am, Good Morning Aotearoa runs for three hours (6-9am).

11AM
Over on PTV1, The Morning Break - produced at Whitebait’s real-life studios in Christchurch - is hosted by Greg O’Connor (from TAB Trackside) and Ali Harper (an accomplished singer and entertainer) with Sue White (from The Breeze Christchurch) and Jason Mac (also known as “J-Mac” on More FM’s Breakfast Club) hosting advertorial segments.

The Morning Break runs from 8.30-10am Monday to Friday and combine a mixture of celebrity inteviews, lifestyle segments, entertainment and advertorials. At WTV, 11AM follows the same format as The Morning Break but it airs at the later time of 11am (as the title suggests) and runs for a whole hour.

Today Tonight
Over on PTV1, A Current Affair is fronted by Ryan Bridge (from Magic Talk) and highlights topical events and issues from around New Zealand - backed by a team of formidable journalists, producers and researchers up and down the country. At WTV though, Today Tonight follows the same format as A Current Affair in its 7pm Monday to Friday timeslot.

WTV News: Late Edition
Nightline is PTV Network’s late night news and current affairs programme, tackling the national and international stories of the day - just like Checkpoint on RNZ. Anchored by Mitch McCann with Janika ter Ellen, it runs weeknights from 10.30-11.15pm. Meanwhile, at WTV, the late night edition of WTV News is basically a standard news bulletin which airs at the later time of 11pm.

Public Eye
60 Minutes is PTV Network’s flagship current affairs programme which offers hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news. It combines locally produced items with content sourced from the American and Australian versions of 60 Minutes (i.e. CBS and Channel Nine).

60 Minutes airs on PTV1 every Sunday at 6.30pm and its correspondents are Garth Bray (from TVNZ), Guyon Espiner (from RNZ), Melanie Reid (from Newsroom), Paula Penfold (from Stuff Circuit) and Tristram Clayton (formerly of Campbell Live).

Meanwhile, WTV’s Public Eye follows the same format as 60 Minutes; it airs every Thursday at 8.30pm.

Point of View
Point of View is WTV’s weekly programme devoted to politics and provides its viewers with a mixture of political news, interviews and debate.

This programme, which screens Sundays at 9.30pm, is different from PTV Network’s current affairs magazine programme - Sunday. Modelled on the CBS News Sunday Morning programme from the United States, Sunday is a mix of national and international news, politics, in-depth reports on issues affecting New Zealand and the world, film reviews, arts features and music. Fronted by Mitch McCann, who also anchors Nightline, it runs for two hours and airs earlier that day on PTV1 (9-11am).

What do you think?

DISCLAIMER: WTV (Western Television New Zealand Ltd) and PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd) are fictional broadcasters and will not broadcast to New Zealand, as they are fictitious and imaginary. Thank you for understanding.
