BBC News/World News

really don’t know how to feel about the single line lower third, just feels empty with the BBC’s graphics

this globe has lasted 15 years, 4 graphics relaunches.

BBC News really needs a new identity - especially considering the location titles still use Gill Sans.

Here is the TOTH Sequence. It is a bit of mess really :joy:

Here the same TOTH from the UK feed.

PATV Scunthrope (a really good mocker) did a MUCH better job integrating the legacy titles, and the Chameleon look into the titles

The globe and music are classic.
A good tweak is needed though to fit in with the refreshed BBC branding.

See here: Martin Anderson made a great evolution to the globe in his mock - would’ve fit well .

that globe, and the whole style, has served them well for almost 2 decades, but maybe time to really shake it up? this would have been a great opportunity.

as part of the new BBC News Channel - UK viewers opt out at 9am local time for a call in show that is also on BBC Radio 5 Live… for a news channel, this isn’t too great imo  BBC Radio 5 Live : Nicky Campbell - first show on TV (Intro) - 17 April 2023 - YouTube

Gives off AM vibes.

Oh dear… what is the BBC doing?!

Five Live is an AM station, so there’s probably a reason for that … and although Nicky Campbell’s show has been on the radio for ages, it jars quite a bit being put on TV compared to what we would’ve seen at that time during the first quarter century of BBC News 24.

I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the plans to reduce costs for news involve bringing in more Five Live content for the domestic version, but then, you start to lose the raison e’tre of merging it with World News. But then, that may have been the whole point.

First time I’d seen some of the revised BBC Breakfast branding too (that came in last year)… looking at the actual titles from another video, the branding’s a lot more restrained than even I suspected.

They may have meant Threes AM show from its early iteration / Paul Herry

Christian Fraser’s (The) Context has a new open, integrating more graphical elements from the main channel:

Seriously, what’s BBC News’ obsession with cornered graphics? It’ll just make the wordmarks at the centre more tricky to be readable at all times.

of all the opening titles they choose to update, they don’t choose the 15 year old main titles

Ooh, that’s a fair point, yeah…

Comments suggest it was seen in UK as the World feed opted out for a commercial.
