Father Brown

Season 9 Final, Episode 10 (100th Episode)

Saturday 4 June 7.30pm

The 100th episode features the welcome return of Emer Kenny as Bunty and Alex Price as Sid, while viewers will finally be introduced to the feted Lord Monty Montague, played by Alexander Hanson.

As 1953 comes to a close. Lady Felicia (Nancy Carroll) and Lord ‘Monty’ Montague (Alexander Hanson) host a lavish masked ball counting down to 1954. But their plans are ruined when the Minister of Defence, Sir Charles Hakeworth (Richard Dillane) is murdered by a masked figure.

With the estate locked down and a killer in the midst Father Brown (Mark Williams) and the gang must find the real perpetrator.

Meanwhile, Lady Felicia is forced to confront problems in her marriage when a letter from a Flambeau (John Light) offers an exciting prospect in America.

When a second guest, Ruth Moulton (Cam Spence) is attacked by ‘the Red Death’, which seems unconnected to Sir Charles death, Dr Muthomi (Caleb Frederick) comes to her aid.

As the search for the killer intensifies Father Brown suspects there’s more to the case than first meets the eye. Can he piece together the mystery before the clock strikes 12 or is this the final waltz?

Father Brown has become a global success since making its BBC debut in 2013, and is now broadcast in more than 232 territories around the world, including primetime in the US.

FTA Premiere

Kevin McCloud revisits Adrian and Megan, whose dream home in East Sussex became a nightmare. With the house now fully complete, what is living in a cutting-edge concrete bunker really like?

Kevin McCloud revisits rural East Sussex to meet concrete obsessed professional deep-sea diver Adrian, who fell in love with cold uncompromising concrete in the skateparks of Scotland. Back in 2016 he convinced his wife, Megan, to build their new family home entirely out of concrete – both inside and out. No cladding, no carpets, no plaster, or wallpaper, it was to be as pure a concrete building as humanly possible. Adrian believed his raw, exposed, modular concrete home would be the ultimate 21ˢᵗ century country house.

However, the perils of being a pioneer soon became evident for project manager Adrian. Installation of the foundations, using a high-tech reinforced concrete mix they hoped would save them £40,000, fell afoul of building regulations. Another recipe, designed to overcome concrete’s reputation as a poor insulator, refused to pour properly. With both schedule and budget under strain, Adrian was forced to resume work as a North Sea diver, leaving Megan juggling this messy challenging build, all the while looking after three young children.

By 2018 water leaks were still to be addressed, most of the spaces were raw and unfinished and the family were still a long way away from moving into their concrete dream.

Now, two and a half years after his last visit, with the house now fully complete, Kevin returns to see what living in a cutting-edge concrete bunker is really like.

Ithaka: A fight to free Julian Assange

Tuesday 7 June 8.30pm

Filmed over two years across the UK, Europe and the US, this 2- part documentary follows 76-year-old retired builder, John Shipton’s tireless campaign to save his son, Julian Assange.

This 2-part factual series begins on April 11th, 2019, when images of Julian Assange being arrested from the Ecuadorian embassy in London are beamed across the world.

Since that moment Julian has been silenced and into the void have stepped lawyers, advocates, and supporters. Standing unique among them is Julian’s fiancée, Stella Moris and 76-year-old father, John Shipton – a self-taught builder from Sydney.

Not what he was expecting in his retirement years, John launches into a relentless schedule traversing Europe, engaging in countless press interviews, meeting politicians, and engaging with supporters in street protests, in an effort to help his son.

As the international media descend, Ithaka tracks Julian’s fiancée Stella Moris, through her journey from Julian’s ‘secret family’ to a fierce public advocate for Julian and press freedoms. It also follows John & Stella as they rally members of the public, advocate to politicians and cautiously step into the media’s glare - where they are forced to enter the fray and confront perceptions with the actual implications of Julian’s incarceration.

The film culminates in early 2021, when the UK verdict to extradite Julian to America collides with a pandemic and an explosive US presidential election.

Using Julian’s extradition hearing as a framework, this intimate story of a family’s crisis traces moments from the trial and its aftermath, underscoring how Julian’s story is emblematic of a decade of uncertainty and volatility.

Production credit: A Shipton House Production. Principal production funding from Screen Australia in association with Film Victoria. Written and Directed by Ben Lawrence. Produced by Gabriel Shipton and Adrian Devant. Executive Producer Roger Savage. Original Music by Brian Eno. ABC Manager of Documentary Stephen Oliver. Head of Factual and Culture Jennifer Collins.

Two spectacular blue chip natural history offerings to screen this winter on ABC TV & ABC iview

Southern Ocean Live airs Tuesday 21 June, 8.30pm, ABC TV and ABC iview. #SouthernOceanLive

Meet The Penguins airs Tuesday 28 June, 8.30pm, ABC TV and ABC iview. #MeetThePenguinsAU

ABC and Screen Australia are pleased to announce two remarkable, prime-time factual shows from the award-winning Northern Pictures, airing on ABC TV and ABC iview this June.

Southern Ocean Live (1x90mins) screening on winter solstice, Tuesday 21 June, 8.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview, is must see live television at its best. Made by the same team that brought Reef Live to ABC screens, we head this time to the wintry Southern Ocean to experience big creatures, big science, and big thrills that will take the audience on a live adventure that’s as wild as it gets.

Broadcasting from the Southern Ocean Live HQ located at Phillip Island’s Penguin Parade, hosts Hamish Macdonald and Dr Ann Jones will be crossing live to special guests, and telling the stories of incredible creatures, including the resident fairy penguins who raucously return at dusk each night in their thousands.

Not far away, marine scientists Sheree Marris, Lucas Handley and Dr Dean Miller will be reporting, from under the water, the remarkable stories of giant spider crabs, giant cuttlefish and the other sea creatures who also appear in the extraordinary chain of reefs that make up the coastline of Southern Australia including whales, dolphins, seals, albatross, and great white sharks.

And the wonder of nature continues the following week with the ABC’s Dr Ann Jones back with Meet the Penguins (1x60mins), screening Tuesday 28 June, 8.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview, for a delightful look at the world’s smallest penguins, living on the southern coastline of Australia.

From the famous penguin parade on Phillip Island to the penguins living in the city suburb of St Kilda, we meet key characters who over the next six months attempt to complete their mission: to stake their territory, partner up and raise their chicks.

Inside the colony are both tales of domestic bliss and neighbourhood dramas. While out at sea, the little penguins are forced to face trials of tempestuous weather, strong currents and migrating fish stocks.

Warm, surprising, revelatory, and uplifting , Meet the Penguins , shows us that whilst the Little Penguins may be the world’s smallest penguin, they might just be the toughest too!

The series opens with a chance encounter between Ruby and Samir. Encouraged by Samir, Ruby breaks protocol when visiting a sick girl who has a deadly virus. Ruby and Samir take the girl (Karishma) to The Good Karma Hospital where Lydia recognises the Nipah virus but ignores Ram’s advice to refuse the child hospitalisation. It’s a move that makes local politician Hira Grover a powerful enemy.

Greg encounters Frankie Martin and her neurodiverse son Bobby, who are visiting India so Bobby can observe the nations birds. Frankie, who is struggling to allow Bobby any freedom, suffers a health scare. New headstrong trainee doctor Niki Sharma intervenes to support Frankie in order to allow Bobby to stand on his own two feet.
