7NEWS.com.au records highest ever audience

7NEWS.com.au has recorded its highest ever audience in March of 11.8 million Australians seeking out trusted journalism and analysis on the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

In just 11 months of operation 7NEWS.com.au has moved to the second most-visited commercial news website in the country, according to the latest monthly Nielsen Digital Content Ratings (DCR) for March.

A record 38 per cent month-on-month growth has 7NEWS.com.au now being visited by almost 1 in 2 Australians.

7NEWS.com.au is now the dominant News website for the key under 30s demographic. Number 1 in both men and women - reaching 72 per cent of the under 30 population in the country*.

Commenting, Executive Producer 7NEWS.com.au, Phil Goyen , said: “March was a tough month for so many. Our goal was to provide fast and factual information as well as comfort and understanding. We were right beside our audience every step of the way and we will remain there.”

Surging through July 10.3 million Australians turned to 7NEWS.com.au for comprehensive and up-to-the-minute coverage on the ongoing COVID-19 crisis – an increase of 14 per cent month-on-month.

In just 15 months of operation, 7NEWS.com.au has become the fastest growing website in Australia – cementing its position in the top five most-visited commercial news websites and the preferred source of news for the key under 35s demographic. Number 1 in total people under 35, males under 30 and females under 25, according to the latest monthly Nielsen Digital Content Ratings (DCR) for July.

I’d say they are doing this because their average time per user on the site is incredibly short compared to the competition, suggesting visitors probably visit the site from news posted from their socials for a specific story and don’t stick around.

I was thinking about ‘Happening Now’ while checking 7NEWS’s national Instagram page yesterday. Very few posts with the branding were made for it, then it just disappeared

Updated 7NEWS.com.au ‘Know the News NOW’ slogan, replacing the current ‘Connect Direct’. Animates similar to the Network promos. I think the jingle has been slightly tweaked.

What a dreadful end card. I can appreciate the graphics department are trying a new look for promos but they seem to have no eye for design, as brought up by other MS members. Something like this could be expected from a community station or one of the regional affiliates, but not from one of the networks.
