Winning Arvo

A very similar palette to Blankety Blank

The news to game shows is jarring. But I think they should get some credit for doing some local content. The cheap and easy option is to just air the imports back to back. They are trying to make it more engaging I guess.

It will be very interesting to see how long the cash giveaways last, because I would love to know where the money comes from. The Cash Cow was brought back recently, but with a sponsor.

This is giving me late night quiz show vibes like Quizmania and The Mint. Not great.

So bizarre. It just cheapens the news. Whoever said it was like a comedy sketch was spot on. Definitely not a fan. This won’t last past Xmas. Hopefully it’s just a stopgap until they can get this 3pm show ready.

Yeah, I think the only way this works without cheapening the 7News brand any further is if you have a host for the links and game show components, and a newsreader. Having the newsreader do the game show bits is beyond awful.

This feels like the Up Late Game Show with Hot Dogs (and a side serving of news)

That was what I said earlier.

Maybe this is only temporary until the end of this year? Maybe a trial to see if anything gets traction? Or to draw interest to the 2 new formats to see if there’s any interest?

Oops, I didn’t see your post in the deluge!

I’m guessing it’s a trial. It’s low risk. Mostly out of the limelight because a lot of people will be at work etc, and I guess it won’t turn off 7News’ core demographic from the main 6pm bulletin.

Contestant 1 and 3 got $100 and Contestant 2 got $500 out of a possible $10,000 each.

Why not just bring back Quizmania?

Because of all the reasons that were in the 2007 UK scandal that saw the shutdown of this type of programming.

Although given we don’t know what will be played next week, could be an idea?

This is so embarrassing.

Seven announced “Winning Arvo" on Friday, for a Monday start. Very rushed and obviously not much thought went into their decision making.

That isn’t the rush you should be focusing on.

The rush that should gather more attention is what happened between Sep 10, when Alex sorta confirmed a longstanding rumor that he would be doing a 3pm hour-long show, and Sep 19 when WA was announced.

There was probably a lot of thought going into their decision-making. Only problem: They were just the wrong thoughts.

Calling Channel 10… no pun intended.

Second review is in.

It’s basically a summary of this thread if you haven’t got time to read through them all.

The Cheap Seats tonight will be one to watch, that’s for sure.

Obviously I know I’m repeating myself, but if you think Plinko is terrible, you might be clamoring for it to return next week!

Seven News with Alex Cullen showed up in the rankins doing pretty well with 174k.
However, by 5pm Tipping Point puller further ahead than the previous Monday.

I will post a full ratings table for the afternoon across the networks when I get a chance.

Update:

Full afternoon ratings across Seven, Nine and 10.

I would not count out the possibility of it being curiosity only.

Its average for the rest of the week/month could be at least a quarter lower, if not more, given the sour first impression.

I mean, I was rooting for TCA to dramatically close the gap with TP whenever its “biggest win ever” episode airs next week, but now given it is part of WA…

Would a story from Media Watch on the ABC warrant this as well?

If it is successful, I can see it could possibily be extended beyond this week.
