WIN News

Do they have to introduce change or do we just want them to introduce change? It needs to be a softly softly approach, there’s been too much change for the network already and the news is one of those programs that has a sense of stability to the viewers and it’s already been messed around with by changing time and changing the look a little bit but to make sure they don’t lose viewers they need to introduce change slowly. As disappointing as it is for us who love brand new things, the older viewers aren’t so keen on things messing with their routine and yep, different graphics can trigger an over-reaction about the amount of change.

We are talking about changing the red, to more Ten like yellow/orange colors.
NO ONE other than us would even notice that.

Yeah that change nobody would notice but there are others talking about entire background changes needed and changing the music because and complete graphic overhauls because they’re too similar to Nine and while I agree and I love a relaunch as much as the next guy, it’s just too much change along with all their programming changes that some people won’t make the connection that it’s still the same WIN News underneath.

I understand that but it’s Nines News theme, with a Nine looking set/background. If it’s keyed which as far as I’m aware it is then it shouldn’t be that difficult. They are my only concerns, the big one for me is the theme the set not as big of an issue

Does the average person recognise that it’s Nine News theme or do they recognise it as the music to the news they’ve watched for years? If Nine come out and demand WIN need to change it because it’s too similar, then WIN will need to change it but at the moment it’s only people who live and breathe TV presentation who are saying it needs to change because they’ve changed affiliation. WIN have a lot at stake with it and if they don’t need to change it too early, then they can keep the current one.

Why not a TEN News inspired WIN News backdrop like this.

That would look great for say, All Australian News. I still feel like the regional bulletins need a backdrop image to associate them with the local area. Great mock as always though

The large globe could be switched out for a local backdrop. Or the control room in the back is a local backdrop

Win have only ever had one backdrop that reflected the local region and that was years ago for a very short time so that may not really be a necessary feature.

I think local backdrops hold be used - for sure. Huge selling point

There would be a few out there that would see it as the same, cuts confusion down, I wouldn’t change news services just because I don’t like that the theme changed

The networks might worry about it, given how quickly Seven reverted back to The Mission last year (?) when they changed their theme.

For all we know WIN may very well have their own licence to use that version of Cool Hand Luke. May explain why they kept it when Nine changed to their current one.

There is going to be uproar in Tasmania when people find out there will be no WIN News this weekend! Seems the local media has not picked this one up yet. And what will happen on August 27 when Ten shows the Bledisloe Cup match from Wellington (kick off 5.35pm AEST)? WIN needs to have a full bulletin on both days, even if it means shifting from its 5.30pm timeslot.

but it might be difficult if there are no national news stories to pick up from Ten on the day

Caps of the WIN Pictures & Exclusive bug from last nights bulletin.

I actually still think they’ve done fairly well with the new supers, it’s just a shame they’re loosely based of TEN’s previous package which they recently updated. I look forward to seeing what other tweaks they hopefully make over the coming weeks to bring the rest of the presentation in line with this new look they’ve created.

Can WIN get clips from overseas broadcasters like CNN and APTN itself? Also, if Ten is producing bulletins for Adelaide and Perth viewers then it should be able to supply national news stories to WIN.

Now at 6pm promo

I don’t think TEN would go to the trouble of producing national news reports just for WIN in Tassie?

On both Saturday and Sunday Ten are producing a nation bulletin. 5.30pm in Adelaide for 30 minutes and a full one hour for Perth to be shown at 5.00pm there.
Thanks for that TV Cynic. I was mainly looking at the Melbourne and Sydney guides at the time which have none, so wasn’t aware of Ten doing any national bulletin.

Even if Ten weren’t producing any national news elsewhere, WIN should still be airing a bulletin at 6pm. It would probably have be 100% reliant on local stories (they should be able to fill a standard half-hour bulletin IMO), unless they can manage to source extra news content from other places.

I know it’s been said before but what’s the bet that within 6-12 months, WIN will axe Tasmania’s weekend bulletin? As much as I want as much local news/content on TV as possible, I do think it’s going to be very hard to justify the continuation of WIN Tasmania’s weekend news long term when Ten themselves don’t do local weekend news in major metro markets and when there’s major sporting events on (which is a complete joke IMO, because we all know that Seven and Nine manage to work their news bulletins around major sporting events just fine), not even a national weekend news bulletin at all!

Of course I really hope to be proven wrong, but it’s probably not a matter of if, but rather when there will next be major cutbacks at WIN News Tasmania. I certainly don’t think the news service will close down entirely (at least not yet anyway) of course, but I do think that the weekend news and possibly the composite hour format may not be sustainable in the long run.
Agree. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see cuts and a shift of timeslot back to 6pm by the end of the year (if not sooner) to the Tassie bulletin. I can’t see them being able to sustain it for very long (would be happy to be proven wrong on this of course).

They still have elements of Nine here, then they have their own custom presentation there, and then there’s hints of Ten’s look over there, too. Such a mess. I really hope they have plans of an overhaul at some stage later this year or early next year.

Why not a TEN News inspired WIN News backdrop like this.
Something like that would be nice. Maybe they could add a local image to it which would look even better.
Clearly their news will be MIA yet again on that particular day. Unless they decided however to run a half-hour bulletin at 5pm, which would be extremely unlikely.
