Welcome to Media Spy 2.0 - Discourse

Yes, and it only lasts for a few seconds so not an issue, but (just wondering, not going on and on about it,) was it just a coincidence that in the past when I’ve seen that then a number of posts disappeared…?

Most likely coincidental - as far as I know the automated maintenance wouldn’t remove any content, with the possible exception of posts that have been deleted by their authors.

If you’ve got any specific posts that you believe have gone missing, feel free to PM me with the details and I can have a look.

I was thinking of some posts which appear to have been deliberately deleted by a mod (they were, let’s say, quite blunt in their critique of…someone); my thinking was perhaps maintenance (or something making the site read only for a bit) has to be run to implement such deletions (& so the glitch in the Matrix reference came to mind), but never mind (not an issue).

The site does not have to be put into maintenance mode for staff to remove content.

The specific posts you’re referring to were removed as they were off topic and some were rather inappropriate.

I do like this way of viewing a reply to another post in the topic rather than on mobile where it jumps up to the post in question.

Later tonight we will move to the latest version of Discourse (1.7) which has a lot of new stuff, some of it you’ve already probably seen as it was rolled out in previous upgrades

For those inclined, here are the release notes: https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-version-1-7/41842/6

Found a neat feature in Discourse 1.7, support for the Discourse app for iOS and Android! Nice.

Two new things today:

  1. We now join the growing number of sites online to operate in HTTPS - it’s been something that’s been on my list for a little while now and LetsEncrypt makes it easy to do. Australian security blogger Troy Hunt believes we’ve reached the tipping point for HTTPS over HTTP (https://www.troyhunt.com/https-adoption-has-reached-the-tipping-point/)
Don’t know about HTTPS? - Wiki is your friend - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTPS

  2. Uploads now go to our new Amazon S3 bucket hosted in Sydney - this should stop some of the issues we’ve had where the site stops working because we’ve run out of space. It’s also a hell of a lot cheaper then getting more space through our webhosts (DigitalOcean who are very cool and if you use this link to sign up you get $10 and enough of you sign up we can defray some hosting costs - https://m.do.co/c/0f621cbc5fd1)

Digital Ocean - sounds like a time share you want us to sign up for?

Let me assure you that this isn’t one of those shady pyramid schemes you’ve been hearing about. No sir, our model is the trapezoid.

We all know where pyramid schemes started. Seems like a bit of de Nile going on here.

Does it guarantee each user an 800% return within an hour?

Is everything alright? @Bort @TV.Cynic

I noticed just before MediaSpy was down & imagined it was due to previous issues.

But somebody just emailed me (no idea who it is, under an alias, or how the hell they got my email) telling me I was being blamed or something?

I heard that there may have been some legal action threatened by Seven because there was way too much celebration on this forum regarding the low ratings for MKR last night
