I believe the HD addition only appeared on 7mateHD in Sydney for the first time today, although it was on in Brisbane (not sure about 7mateHD Perth) during the AFL on Friday night.
As far as I’m aware, all regional areas only get 7mate in MPEG2 HD rather than all channels in MPEG2 SD with a HD simulcast of either Seven or 7mate (dependant on which station is the predominant broadcaster of AFL in the city).
On that note.
When watching the various regional feeds last week to record local versions of 7 News, I couldn’t believe how long some of the watermark location names were.
I’ve always thought the “Townsville” out to the side of the watermark looked a little intrusive at times.
But when I tuned into the Rockhampton feed during The Chase, the “Central Queensland” tag they use was obstructing a heap of the numbers in the final chase rally at the bottom.
Here’s a current screen cap from tonight to show how excessive it can look. Makes me wonder why they don’t just write “Central QLD”
All 7 watermarks have disappeared at the moment in Brisbane except 7Flix and 7HD (LCN 70) that looks like this. Same in regional Queensland - no watermarks except 7Flix.
Same deal in Sydney. No watermarks on Seven, 7TWO or 7mate (excluding the “HD” addition on LCN-70) while 7Flix and RACING.COM still have their watermarks.
New HD watermark and no Olympic rings in Melbourne tonight.
SD channel is also without Olympic rings and from what I can tell from streams there are no olympic rings anywhere else except Perth which is still showing the rings.
I saw that during Criminal Minds too, and after being reminded how BiG and UGLY the standard 7 watermark is, I much prefer the “rings” version purely because it’s less intrusive.
