TV Commercials

Steve Vizard did it better.

Nothing says ‘professional’ like having a mobile phone number listed as a retail business’ main phone number.

This may top the list as being the most cringiest, an advertisement for a mall over in the US… https://youtu.be/6bnanI9jXps

One from Channel Nine Sydney very late at night/in the early hours of the morning, an ad for Budgewoi retirement village Sunnylake Shores:

I’d have to go through any Central Coast recordings I’ve got to confirm my memory, but suspect this was produced by NBN Central Coast because it’s got that cheap low budget look that most local ads on NBN Central Coast have. The watermark on the TV (a bit hard to see, but I’m pretty sure it’s NBN’s) also suggests the commercial may be several years old.

Found it on YouTube! It was posted three years ago, but does look older as you noticed.

Or have never even heard of it before, clearly a local as for a single shop in NSW.

Just like this equally catchy Sungold Milk as from western Victoria.

People who live in the Illawarra might be familiar with it, but probably the first I ever became aware of those Computer Town ads was on YouTube.

Anyway, I’m surprised nobody on Media Spy has already talked about the latest ad for Uber Eats and the very familiar faces in it!

Makes you wonder if one of the reasons Lee Lin Chin left the weekend editions of SBS World News was because she was getting these ad deals and the bosses there thought it wasn’t appropriate for one of their newsreaders to be fronting spots like that one and the Transport for NSW/Tomorrow’s Sydney propagand…I, mean advertising campaign!

Or maybe once she left, she decided to do the ads for some coin.

And what about the other version?

Obviously shot in Chin’s lounge room!

When ONE first began transmissions in regional VIC, I remember seeing that ad at least once a day

Former sporting greats have joined the call for alcohol advertising to be banned during sporting events.

I recall a ad for a Slim Dusty ad that aired often around 2013, which featuring a Wiggles song (the one that’s a duet with him) and a clip from it at the end. I can’t seem to find it now, but can someone help me?

Watching 9go Kids this morning and nearly all the commercials are American and none of them have been re-dubbed.

I always thought re-dubbing American ads was a waste of time.

Something to cheer about? Just less jobs in Australia making adverts and dubbing adverts. :weary:

Yet more Americanisation and making it seen as a superior culture while losing our own identity. People will hopefully wake up one day and see what they’re losing/have lost.

I’m not anti-American but when we lose our own identity because people choose to be more like them for some unknown reason then it sucks.

Including the way the Australian accent is changing towards more of an American twang.

Unless this country imports millions of Americans, I don’t think the Australian accent is going anywhere. It’s pretty much ingrained now no matter how much American tv/commercials kids watch.

I’d disagree with that. The teenage children of a family friend speak with a distinct american accent with no influence other than the idiot box.

Some other random things that shit me to tears is the increasing use of mom over mum and the dropping of the S in maths.
