TV Commercials

Well Geelong e.g gets the Melbourne TV channels (and the local TV transmitters in Geelong are just repeaters of the Melbourne service), so I wouldn’t be surprised if viewers there started getting Tankworld ads? Particularly those down on the coast or in rural areas such as Ceres or Lara? I mean, Melbourne TV advertising is incredibly expensive, but would Tankworld have the big dollars to start putting their ads on Melbourne TV just to cater for Geelong and Surf Coast viewers? Or perhaps even Warragul residents who also pick up the Melbourne channels as well? Dunno.

I don’t really watch Perth TV, instead I find commercials from there at times, though not this month. However, I did do a short sample of some of the Nine Perth channels recently this month upon the Tankworld ad discovery on Nine Adelaide, and whilst going through some of the ad breaks, there were some ads for Perth-based businesses (not too many though), but interestingly enough, there was not one Tankworld ad in sight.

In my 30+ years living in Melbourne the only time I saw Geelong-specific ads on HSV7, GTV9 and ATV10 were for 3GL radio station on a break on Hey Hey It’s Saturday on GTV9, and Winter and Taylor Holden on ATV10’s NBL telecast. It is very rare to see a Geelong-specific ad on Melbourne TV, but if a national chain store such as Nick Scali or Bunnings opens an outlet in Geelong there were ads saying “Geelong store now open”. There are more cases of Geelong businesses advertising on Ballarat stations (there are examples on youtube) to service those in the viewing area that are near Geelong (such as Winchelsea and Colac). The Geelong Advertiser TV guide lists Ballarat variations (eg. WIN News at 5.30pm).

Found this one. It’s from 1986, and it features an ad from Market Square Geelong, which aired on ATV-10 Melbourne.

Found this off Adgile’s Vimeo page. It’s for Southern Design RV in Geelong. Not sure what year it’s from, but I could assume the 2020s?

Today they are located in Ballarat and the old Princes Hwy Corio site is now occupied by I  THIS SHOP.

When did happen that so many TVCs contain such long T and Cs, caveats and explanations in microscopic print. Seems to be the majority now. Used to be minimal like “Overseas model shown” in a car commercial. What’s the point? It’s not like you have a chance to read them.

What it looks like in SD!

They have always had advertising in Adelaide even decades ago.

I’ve seen this Swysh banner ad a few times on FOX Footy tonight during programming.

Really hope this doesn’t become a thing.

(sorry for poor PQ … taken at a pub!)

probably no worse than the ad scrolls we used to see along the bottom of the screen during sports telecasts?

Credit to @Radio_TVGuy: What major hardware chain is plugged in the background of these ads?

Not sure if this is the correct thread to post this but…

I’ve noticed that “Tankworld” has a commercial airing for the last couple of months that featured what looks to be AI generated animals, notably a Kangaroo and a koala.

I don’t have a photo of it but i know @Radio_TVGuy you have access and might be able to catch in on 10 Wollongong?

Yep seen it and it is awful, also an Air bnb and a ING ad that was hallucinated I saw recently.

Yes! I was going to add that Airbnb ad but i’m not sure if it’s AI or actually man made considering their not short of a quid.

I’m not sure about the IMG ad since i haven’t seen it.

Also not really a TVC but the end card of The Block in the promo looks AI edited.

I managed to grab a capture of it tonight to have a better look.

It’s definitely sloppy, the noodles the character is holding on the left bounce up and down on their own and the top down shot of the noodles going into some weird liquid does not look right.

There is probably more but I only had a quick look at it just now. They tried though and it is concealed more by having a comical look to hide the flaws when trying to made it look too realistic.

The ING one I only partially saw on TV the other night as I usually mute and look away during breaks (I can’t stand todays ads).
It was some human but looking like a lion in a pool on one of those floating chair things. His face wobbles all over the place and when the phone is dropped the phone bounces and wobbles all over the place. It looks terrible.
