Triple M Network

When is that occuring?

Monday 26 February according to the post in the Southern Cross Austereo (Regional) thread.

Blimey! I never saw that coming. I never thought theyā€™d give up on the Hit stream in Bundaberg - even though they couldnā€™t use the Hit name due to the local Hitz FM.

Gee itā€™s going to hurt 4BU - a lot. But Hitz must be loving it!

Gets Triple M NRL into Bundy - that would have been the drive for change Iā€™d say.

Surely not the only drive for change. As I mentioned in the SCA regional thread, there is at least one HIT branded station I know of already taking Triple M Footy. AFL though, not NRL. Didnā€™t need a rebrand just for sports coverage.

I personally donā€™t think that would be the main drive to change. IMO they just donā€™t want to be bothered running a Hit station with a different brand in such a small market. Their ratings would be adversely affected by the fact people associate the word Hit with the ā€œotherā€ station and the use of the term ā€œhitā€ on the networked shows would lead some to be confused at ratings time.

Anyway thereā€™s a wide open gap for a more adult oriented station on FM so itā€™s an easy option. Although I do have some relatives in the region who listen to Rebel.

Iā€™m sure SCA would love to buy Hitz in Bundaberg.

Spot on Iā€™d say. Helped by the fact that thereā€™s a gap between the music played by Hitz and 4BU that they can fill.

Itā€™s a risky move though - Sea FM rates far lower than Hitz, theyā€™re ratings arenā€™t particularly dismal, even taking out the #1 spot for 18-24. Theyā€™re basically gifting their whole existing audience to Hitz. And where will they get their new audience from? 4BU Is a obvious starting point, but their ratings are lower than Seaā€™s, and most of their audience are 55+ and would tend to prefer the older format and talk back offered by 4BU. The really only leaves the older Hitz audience, and even if they got half of that, those numbers wouldnā€™t be huge.

Will they find an audience? Sure. Will they get numbers similar to current ratings? Maybe. Will they exceed current ratings? Unlikely.

Does anyone know if Lawrence Mooney aka ā€˜Moonmanā€™ is live is Brisbane for Triple M Brisbane breakfast programme or is he based down south somewhere?

Think heā€™s doing the show out of Melbourne, like Ed Kavalee before him

Triple M invests more to be EVERYTHING Sport in Brisbane!

Sam Hargreaves named full time Sports Guy!

Triple M Brisbane is serious about SPORT, so serious that it has announced Sam Hargreaves will be the stationā€™s full time SPORTS GUY. In a time when most stations are streaming content from southern headquarters and downsizing newsrooms, the move signals just how serious Triple M Brisbane is also about their local listeners, their local sports news and their local teams.

And itā€™s not just sports news Triple M Brisbane is 100 per cent behind. The station has announced exclusive Partnerships with the Queensland Reds, Brisbane Lions, Netball Queensland and Queensland Firebirds, The Heat and local rugby.

Brisbaneā€™s Sam Hargreaves lives and breathes sport. Heā€™d probably be playing in a professional capacity somewhere if his first love wasnā€™t radio, and if he was actually any good at sports himself! Heā€™s passionate and provocative and he knows the players, the coaches, the referees and the managers ā€“ he gets how sport happens and how sportspeople think. Thatā€™s why heā€™s the Triple M Sports Guy and thatā€™s why Triple M will be Brisbaneā€™s go-to source of all sporting news. Sam will continue to anchor the Triple M AFL call team, be a regular guest on the Triple M NRL call team and lead Triple Mā€™s Dead Set Legends along with Margeaux Parker, covering everything sport and lifestyle from 10am-12pm every Saturday morning.

Sam will be EVERYTHING sport in Brisbane - putting the microphone where sport is ā€“ anywhere, anytime, any announcement, any sport. If itā€™s happening in sport in Brisbane, Sam and Triple M will be there.
Bring on 2018.

There canā€™t be too many of the SCA regional stations that have not yet rebranded to the Triple M call sign .4TO FM still havenā€™t

Iā€™m pretty sure that 2GO, KOFM and Gold FM havenā€™t, although itā€™s probably for the best that those stations kept their ā€œHeritageā€ station namesā€¦

Time for the annual potential clashes between AFL and NRL games on MMM Sydney and Brisbane post. Not 100% how theyā€™ll go about putting games on digital or online, this is just stating when thereā€™s a clash.

No clashes NRL Round 1 or 2, no AFL matches.

NRL Round 3/AFL R1: Lions play 2:35 AEST on Saturday 24 March clashing with Canberra vs NZ Warriors, Swans play 4:20 ADST vs West Coast clashing with Gold Coast vs St.George/Illawarra from Toowoomba (Studio call)
NRL R4/AFL R2 (Easter): No clash for Lions (play 6:25 AEST Saturday Night), Swans play 4:40 ADST Sunday clashing with St.George/Illawarra vs Newcastle
NRL R5/AFL R3: No clash for Swans (Play 7:25 Saturday Night), Lions play 1:45 AEST vs Port Adelaide meaning half game clash with Wests Tigers vs Melbourne in Auckland (1st leg of a double header)
NRL R6/AFL R4: Both games (Lions play 2:10, Swans 4:35 Saturday) clash with NZ Warriors vs Brisbane. Naturally MMM Brisbane will take the Broncos game.
NRL R7/AFL R5 (AFLā€™s ANZAC): No clash for Swans who play Friday Night after NZ Warriors vs St.George/Illawarra has finished, Lions play 4:40 Sunday clashing with Cronulla vs Penrith
NRL R8/AFL R6 (NRLā€™s ANZAC): No clashes as there is no 3PM Saturday NRL game and both Swans (1:35) and Lions (4:35) play Saturday. The designated 3PM Saturday game is the ANZAC Night game between Melbourne and NZ Warriors, which should also go into Melbourneā€™s MMM.
NRL R9/AFL R7: No Clash for Swans (play Saturday Night), Lions play 4:40 Sunday clashing with Syd Roosters vs Manly
NRL R10/AFL R8: No clashes, Swans play Friday Night after Newcastle vs Penrith, Lions play Saturday Night
NRL R11/AFL R9: Swans no clash playing Saturday Night. Lions play 3:20 Sunday clashing with Cronulla vs Canterbury
NRL R12/AFL R10: Lions play the Swans at 4:35 Saturday potentially clashing with the end of Roosters vs Gold Coast at Gosford
NRL R13/AFL R11: Being a pre-Origin round MMM may cover the Friday Night game (Souths vs Cronulla) so there may be a clash that night with the Swans also playing Friday Night. Lions play 1:10 Sunday so no clash with game coverage of Roosters vs Wests Tigers.
NRL R14/AFL R12 (Queens Birthday NSW): No clashes, Swans play Saturday Night, Lions play 1:10 Sunday
NRL R15/AFL R13: No clash, Lions have a Bye, Swans play Friday Night after Nth Qld vs Warriors
No clashes for AFL R14 as the NRL has the standalone Origin weekend, and the Swans have a Bye that weekend in any case
NRL R16/AFL R15: Swans play Thursday Night clashing with St.George/Illawarra vs Parramatta (Wollongong), Lions play Sunday 4:40EST clashing with South Sydney vs North Queesland in Cairns (Studio Call)
NRL R17/AFL R16: Swans again play Thursday Night clashing with Melbourne vs St.George/Illawarra, Lions play Saturday Afternoon 1:35 but being the pre Origin round there is no Saturday Afternoon NRL game so no clash
NRL R18/AFL R17: Lions play 1:35 Saturday half clashing with Canterbury vs South Sydney, Swans play 3:20 Sunday clashing with St.George/Illawarra vs Wests Tigers
NRL R19/AFL R18: No clash for Lions who play Saturday Night, Swans play 2:10 Sunday clashing with Newcastle vs Gold Coast
NRL R20/AFL R19: No clash for Swans (Friday Night post North Queensland vs Newcastle), Lions play 2:10 Saturday clashing with Manly vs Penrith
NRL R21/AFL R20: No clash for Swans (Saturday Night), Lions play 2:10 Saturday clashing with St.George/Illawarra vs NZ Warriors
NRL R22/AFL R21: No clash for Lions (Saturday Night), Swans play 3:20 Sunday clashing with Melbourne vs Cronulla (studio call)
NRL R23/AFL R22: No clash for Lions (Saturday Night), Swans play 4:35 Saturday clashing with the end of Penrith vs Newcastle
NRL R24/AFL R23: AFL Schedule is to be finalised so clashes to this stage are unknown
NRL R25 has no clashes as the AFL regular season is finished and thereā€™s a week off before the finals

I havenā€™t included Giants games as I still donā€™t believe MMM Sydney cover their games unless itā€™s for another listening audience. Suns games fall outside the MMM Metro network and are also not included. Also the two Stormā€™s Thursday Night games both clash with AFL games (they play North Queensland at home at the same time as Richmond play Carlton in the season opener, canā€™t work out why someone in NRL land thought that was a good idea) so they wonā€™t get broadcast into Melbourne MMM.

I was thinking that MMM Brisbane would take the Broncos game too.
