The issue is the 5pm hour is pre-recorded, so it tends to be a lot looser as it can be edited and is routinely bleeped. It’s more like the podcast which has always been far more risque than the radio show, and clearly there’s some cross contamination.
Im sorry but the way the Matildas have been acting lately. His opinions, while expressed inappropriately, are actually on the mark. They do act like school kids. Its embarrasing for us.
Yeah, that was a technical issue, but I do agree he could calm down, and I have no doubt he will now. I really don’t like the last hour being pre-recorded generally, it means no callers either.
I agree with this. I listened to Marty’s show every morning when he was on breakfast in Melbourne and really enjoyed it. I also used to listen to the 3-4 portion but don’t really anymore because I find it less funny. I agree that it’s become ‘looser’ since it moved into afternoons, but not in a really humorous way.
I feel like Loren Barry was a big loss to the show. Even though the show is named after Marty, she was a big part of it and had a great rapport with Marty. It just feels like something is missing now.
I reckon advertisers will probably indeed turn their backs on Marty Sheargold as a result of this, and put their advertisements on Hit’s Carrie & Tommy instead. Well, that’s really only if such businesses are located in an area only served by SCA, as if they’re in a metropolitan area they may also wish to advertise on ARN or Nova instead. Only time will tell if this is the case…
How can you seriously claim that even though the comments would “irk” you too (so you acknowledge their poor taste), it’s acceptable in the context that this guy always says sexist, homophobic and racist shit and we think he doesn’t mean it. Guess what, if he didn’t mean it to be offensive, he wouldn’t do it so often. Remember, this is the same guy who almost got sacked (and really probably should have except he pulled the mental health defense) because he got smashed at the footy and couldn’t control his mouth.
And then to say that your main outrage is that other people got offended by something which even you admit would “irk” you. Pot kettle.
I never said that, he certainly says things that are sarcastic in nature but I wouldn’t suggest he makes comments like you suggest.
In relation to this one, it would irk me, as I said, if I didn’t know his regular style. Which I do, and I concede it’s caused blowback, but also by people who don’t listen, and have seen or heard the material in isolation.
Making a joke about a gay man doesn’t automatically make you homophobic, nor jokes about anything else, it’s about context, subtext and source. I shouldn’t have to explain that.
