Also wondering what the future of the Marty Sheargold hour is going to be. Marty is getting more and more looser on the show and is now regularly dropping explicit language. Due to the show being recorded it’s easily beeped out.
He even made reference a few days ago on the podcast that he needs to find another job, but then on contrary made what sounded like very genuine comments on how good working for SCA is. He was comparing it to his time at Nova which he doesn’t sounds very fond of.
So in conclusion, as a regular listener the show, I’m lost on what Marty is thinking and what might happen!
I think what Marty wants, is a show named after him, in a prime-time spot (i.e. not just 3-4pm).
What he had in the beginning at 3MMM is what he is probably wanting today. But without Triple M, unless he returns to Nova, I can’t see Marty popping up at another network.
It’s clear that the Breakfast market in Melbourne is very crowded and it will be difficult for Triple M to become No. 1 on the FM dial.
So I wonder if it would be in their best interests to differentiate themselves from the other stations by just having an announcer at breakfast (i.e. more music, less talk).
Focus and invest into the talk programs for the afternoon/drive shifts later in the day.
6am-2pm: Various announcers (Dangerous Dave, Matty O etc.)
2pm-4pm: Afternoons/Early Drive with Rosie Walton, Will Anderson (or Hughesy) and Daisy Thomas
4pm-6pm: Rush Hour with JB & Billy
2Day tried this in Sydney with Jamie Angel and it wasn’t a success. It might have a better chance on a rock/classic hits format.
But that’s half Triple Ms problem. People will not know whether it’s a single announcer with a music focus (like Dangerous Dave), a talk focus (like Luke Bona) or a sports focus or comedy. Since Triple M tries to be all of these at different times of the day/night.
I agree. Easily the best daily comedy podcast content in my opinion. Without the constraints of live radio Marty and his team are hilarious on the front end of the podcast!
On This Day is only on the podcast now and often goes 30+ minutes.
Sorry that was my point As someone guilty of this, their marketing person is just changing the hue and/or saturation on the shirt from the original hit photoshoot!
