Triple M Network

All that hype and it delivers very little.

Most 1980-90s rock artists whose heyday is long gone get good spins early of their new music on Triple M, before the songs gets forgotten and never played again. I suggest this one from Bon Jovi will be the same.

is it time to finally put a bullet into the MMM brand? its been watered down, weakened and and changed its no longer the MMM of the D-generation or even the Cage.

the rollout of the brand to regional networks has diluted the brand (last night the gold coast station played the travelling wilburys for Christ sake) along with the Dab stations like MMM Country.

I’ve wondered the same. I think the brand is actually more a hindrance than a help these days, they’ve damaged it so much over the years. Most people associate it with blokey bogans these days, in metro areas anywhere. And the regions just see it as a pointless loss of their local radio station in many cases. It’s not a “positive” brand anymore.

Agreed… Look at the ratings from 2016 to now for any Triple M regional… most of them especially the AM’s went backwards badly

Before the regional roll out the triple M brand was very strong, well respected

Cant say that now

especially considering the format of Triple M differing in every state - it’s so fragmented and inconsistent and hurting the brand ultimately.

honestly unsure what ARN sees in Triple M for them to want to take it with their SCA acqusition proposal…

Weren’t they interested in the AFL radio rights? I’d also imagine it gives them a semi-blank canvas to mould into a complementary service to KIIS.

I think it makes sense considering:
-Triple M primarily targets males 25-54
-KIIS-FM primarily targets females 25-54

Conveniently ignoring that most Triple M regional stations went backwards under the metro rock format in 2021/22.

IMO 2MMM and 3MMM have gone downhill since wrapping up The Grill Team and Hot Breakfast.

I agree. I would have thought converting Triple M Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide stations to Pure Gold would have made more sense than retaining the Triple M brand in these cities. Triple M Sydney and Melbourne could go with ACP.

It would be so easy to align FM104 Brisbane and 96FM Perth to Pure Gold, as both stations have strong brands and history in their own right.

Which highlights the unsuitability of both the Triple M brand and traditional format for regional areas. It was ridiculous to try to jam it into regional areas in the first place.

Can someone confirm what positioner Triple M/Triple M Regionals are running at the moment?

Is it “Good times & rocks greatest hits”, or “Good times & the greatest hits”?

In a recent story on the Triple M Central Coast Instagram page, there’s a sign in the background with no mention of, “rocks”.

I’m speaking for Adelaide but assume it’s the same in Brisbane. Currently MMM are hedging their bets, as the weekday playlist sounds a lot like Gold (and granted Gold doesn’t have the brand value in Adelaide), but on weekends it’s wall-to-wall footy. As someone here has said previously it makes it all sound very erratic where the audience they’re going for on weekends is clearly different to the weekday sound.

Agree with that.

Erratic doesn’t work in a world where so many alternatives are available online. People who want music will go elsewhere on weekends - and they won’t bother coming back.

And if you drive an hour down the road and you hear bands like the travelling Wilburys when
You’re expecting Billy idol or the stones it really muddies the band.

You turn on MMM and don’t know if you’re getting music, talkback, footy or what. It’s a muddled, jumbled mess.

They need to drop the sport full stop. Drop the talk. Go wall to wall rock. Modern stuff mostly with a classic every say 4 songs.

Not so sure about that. Triple M Footy is a strong brand and complements the Rush Hour brand well. Suits the station demographics too.

Perhaps. But if Triple M had any guts they’d at least offer a music stream on DAB while the football programs are on. I’m not talking about Classic Rock or 80s, just a normal Triple M music stream. Then people would at least have a proper choice.

Agreed! Whenever I switch on Triple M and hear the footy, the first thing I do is change stations. I hate it and have no interest what-so-ever.
