hard and heavy is still around i still listen to it
Just dropped from DAB. The one extra station that goes a bit under the radar is Almost Acoustic, which is quite a good station, though weirdly branded Triple M on air but not in the station name on digital, so not sure if that hurts discovery.
For Hard and Heavy honestly it’s for the best to be streaming only, the low bit rate really gets painful with metal music - as it really pushes SBR to its limits in trying to compensate, something the generally softer stations don’t have as much trouble with.
Eight Aussie artists have recorded covers of Taylor Swift hits. One track will be released each weekday on the Triple M network from February 5 to February 14. The covers are:
Paul Kelly: Anti-Hero (Monday February 5)
The Screaming Jets: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (Tuesday February 6)
Sarah McLeod: Wildest Dreams (Wednesday February 7)
Diesel: This Is Me Trying (Thursday February 8)
Ian Moss: Style (Friday February 9)
Birds of Tokyo: Blank Space (Monday February 12)
British India: You’re on Your Own, Kid (Tuesday February 13)
Joe Camilleri with Melbourne Ska Orchestra: I Knew You Were Trouble (Wednesday February 14)
UPDATE 6/2: release dates added
This seems really weird for the Triple M brand. Why would a hard rock station want to associate itself with fluffy country/pop?
Because it’s Taylor. And she’s about to be here. Everyone wants in.
Not everyone and that’s the point.
And that’s about as close as Ms Swift will get to being on the metro Ms.
A little surprised no one is trying to shake it off with a cover.
oOoOooOoOh I see.
This is reminiscent of Andrew Denton’s musical challenges. Like the time he got The Screaming Jets to do a cover of My Heart Will Go On.
i swear the songs on sydneys m that played around 6 pm are being played in the same order after midnight or am i just imaging it
For some reason, I imagined Triple M would promote themselves as a Taylor-free zone for the duration of her tour.
Looks like I was wrong.
You’re probably not imagining it. 2Day FM used to do the same thing with the Abby Chatfield show at 7pm. The same songs, in the same order played at 9am, were played at 7pm.
I don’t know if I’d describe Triple M as “hard” rock…
How ever you want to label it, they certainly wouldn’t play Taylor Swift music.
and they’re not, they’re going to play rock artists doing covers.
Triple M are also thinking about digital social media consumption with these Taylor Swift Triple M versions.
These will be well received on TikTok and Instagram even amongst non-Triple M listeners.
LAUGHS IN TRIPLE M REGIONALS
Good to see the 2MMM Grill Team ad structure still getting a run years later…
