Triple M Network

Listening earlier on today, things went dead after a weather update, then the backup tape kicked it with a promo replaying a part of the “how do you spell AC/DC” call from years back, followed by TNT… then a minute or so into it, it was interrupted by an ad, obviously the studio or playout system came back online

I’ll say it again, no metro station should not have an announcer within arms’ reach, if not live.

If you can’t afford a roster of 5/6 announcers daily, you’re not capturing the right revenue.

The Rush Hour Adelaide also lost the first hour on Monday, later said they were hosting in the studio, but nothing was bring broadcast. Tuning in at 4pm to hear what they had to say about cricket we got silence… then auto-cue into Life in the Fast Lane. Are the Tech teams still on Xmas break?

Heh, not as bad as when I heard Unique II’s cover of Matthew Wilder’s “Break My Stride,” Shania Twain’s “Man I Feel Like a Woman” and “Happy” by Pharrell Williams on the Triple M Regional’s Summer 600 countdown via Triple M Newcastle late last week!

It kind of feels like these decades stations (esp MMM 90’s & 00’s) have run their course. They’re not rating well, and there’s equivalents on Mix / Kiss / Nova etc.

If I only wanted to listen to 90’s music, no matter how eclectic, I’d probably just use Spotify.

MMM needs a point of difference on these digital stations, Tradie Radio was ok, and I like the idea of a playlist that isn’t confined by a particular decade, and would love to see a genuine rock station with a lot more variety than the current MMM capital city formats. Even partner with the Rock NZ to create a digital station based on their format, which works very well.

The Triple M ones have very narrow playlists… only about 300 songs or so on rotation throughout a week.

The ARN ones (eg. WS/GOLD 80s) have at least double the songs on their playlists, and is much more listenable to my ears at least. And they rate better than the MMM ones too.

Dead air on the Listnr app for both the 105.1 and Rush Hour JB & Billy feeds. What’s going on? I thought the Rush Hour would be on today given the cricket finished early? Does anyone listening with a proper radio know if they’re even playing music or is it just dead air?

They addressed this about 30 minutes into the show. No issues for regional markets (possibly a programme take issue in Melbourne?)

Didn’t Triple M at one point outright promote that basically the playlist is the Hottest 100 tracks from those years the decade covers, minus whatever is too much of a stretch for the Triple M brand? At least for Triple M 90s as that’s from an era where the Js played more ‘rock’.

MMM 2000s is what my alarm is set to - having it in a dose of an hour a day helps guard against the repetitiveness.

I give MMM country and fair listen and like it

Likewise. MMM 2000s for me is one of the best digital stations for music.

Agree, but it becomes repetitive after awhile.

You mean repetitive?

If you listen to any station long enough it can become repetitive, but as long as the music is good and varied, it doesn’t bother me.

On Triple M Nights with Dave Gleeson tonight, they are celebrating Phil Collins’ 73rd birthday with a double shot. First, at 7:18pm, they played “Something Happened on the Way to Heaven” followed by “Don’t Lose My Number”.

Probably not the two I would have picked from Phil, but ok just the same.

Surely they could’ve selected, at worst, “In the Air Tonight” as I consider that to be his signature song. Wouldn’t have minded “Easy Lover” or “Another Day in Paradise” either.

Surely they also would’ve picked one song from Genesis too such as “Invisible Touch,” “Land of Confusion” (both of those two songs still get flogged to oblivion to this day) and maybe some not much played songs such as “That’s All.”
