Triple M Network

As a fellow Adelaide person, gotta say 5MMM have the mix just right, stable shows, good mix of music especially when the competition of Mix, SAFM and Nova all play fairly similar music. Cruise music is too old and on AM. I do like the Triple M 2000’s as well.

Yes 5MMM seems to have succeeded in this space more effectively than 4MMM.
4MMM should be doing better considering KIIS97.3, Nova and B105 sound very similar most of the time. In my opinion the problem with 4MMM is the talk and sport. Adelaide listeners are probably more into sport/talk overall. Also the music isn’t right on 4MMM and the breakfast show sounds bogan.
4MMM should be taking more listeners from 97.3 as they skew younger and even more female. They should have also picked up younger 4KQ listeners when that dissappeared, but didn’t. Most KQ listeners were probably (younger) FM104 listeners in the 80s.

Triple M metros seem to be now doing a ‘Top 10’ retro countdown at midday, called ‘Raiders Of The Lost Charts’ (with a lot of Indiana Jones references in the sweepers!).

Not sure if this is just Fridays during ‘Awesome 80s’ or if they are doing this on other days/times.

Today they are doing the ‘Top 10’ from this week in 1989.

I think it’s just for the Awesome 80s Friday. They’re playing some interesting music too.

Agree! I’m enjoying the music!

And seems like the Top 10 countdowns are every hour too!

Well I suppose there are only so many ways you can ‘refresh’ an 80’s playlist.

Triple M regionals must have this too as I heard today on Triple M Townsville

Triple M in Sydney rates 5.4 with the 25-39 demographic, KIIS is on a 19 and two other FM station are above a 10 share. Triple M is triple last in this age group.

In the 40-54 demo MMM is the lowest rating station again with a 6.4 share.

Dismal.

I don’t think Triple M Sydney could be considered to be hitting any targets, but they seemed to have stopped trying a few decades ago.

IMO the last time 2MMM tried was when they relaunched as “Sydney’s Best Rock”.

This whole Rocks Greatest Hits era has lost me.

For me, the music isn’t really the problem, it’s the whole mish mash of a schedule, trying to cater to those who want humour, then music, then sport and then music again.

I agree. Although the music isn’t quite right for me, if it was wall-to-wall music with some intelligent and low key announcers, I would at least sample it from time to time.

Eek that’s not good. I would think that should be Triple M heartland in a market like Sydney.

They could experiment with a 70’s playlist, lots of good rock in that era stretching from the early 70’s (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, etc), to the late 70’s (Van Halen, ACDC, The Cars, Dire Straits, etc)
This is taking into account that they play songs that aren’t heavily flogged, Since its Triple M we are talking about, the chances of that happening is most likely zero.

70s rock is already been catered for on MMM Classic Rock. They also have a dedicated 80s station.

The audience is fragmented and all the networks are playing the popular , flogged-to-death songs on FM, with the more varied playlists on DAB/ streaming.

Right about the audience, have noticed that MMM Classic Rock and MMM 80s run songs on what feels like a loop, have heard the same song twice in one day once

It just checked yestedays Triple M 80s log on Lava.net.au

It doesn’t look to be on a loop, as when songs were played twice yesterday, they were followed by a different song… as below

Maybe not a loop but a limited playlist?

It is probably a bit limited, but nearly every station is like that…

Twice every 8-10 hours isn’t too bad, compared to say Hit who turn songs around in less than 2 hours.

Something I’ve been banging on about since the 90’s. It’s safe to stick with the songs that test well unfortunately

Back in the 80s EON FM played a lot of and promoted new music and new Australian rock. They were aiming for the Countdown audience back then. Sadly those days are over.
