Agree with the white ball stuff, could have just been app only if at all. Can get away with the tests on terrestrial given it’s mainly in non-ratings, with the first 2 tests not affecting morning programming (Perth, then Adelaide D/N) and higher interest in that format (and it’s all done in a 6 week window this summer, roll into big concerts and live stuff in January or something like that before the regulars return).

Is anyone waiting for some big announcement from 2MMM?

Surely they’re not entering 2023 with a checked-out brekkie team and underperforming overdone playlist?

From NZ in 2013 (almost a decade ago).
Even back then, both networks have a better playlist.

Our network’s had a midlife crisis for 30 years & counting.

MG Jess & Pagey not continuing in breakfast next year, last show tomorrow

Who on earth are they getting?

Could this pave the way for MEL Breakfast to be networked in?

The show is too centred around AFL, as you’d expect, for most of the year and wouldn’t work in Sydney. Even Moonman recognised Sydney listeners would turn off if he drifted from rugby league talk when he was doing Breakfast. I’m a Marty Sheargold fan but won’t listen to the podcasts because I have no interest in AFL. I barely tolerate rugby league.

Agree, networked breakfast just doesn’t work in the metro areas. It’s been tried before and failed.

SCA told news.com.au a replacement will be announced in “due course”

There’s barely any AFL talk

I must be choosing to listen at the wrong time. No doubt there’d be barely any at this time of year.

I guess my prediction was correct.

Now to axe the music format and role with Triple M Perth’s log.

So the breakfast team are out. I did not even know the name of the hosts in 2022.

Imagine if SCA decided to make Triple M competitive in Sydney.

It’s been quite sad watching the old girl slide from cultural icon to the current confused state of broadcasting. It’s slip to irrelevance in Sydney has been accompanied with its spread throughout the nation, from capital cities to small towns, from FM to AM - it’s quite ironic to be failing in the biggest city but then choosing to use the brand to take over heritage stations at the top of their game.

The first thing they need to do is choose only one of the following:

  • Comedy
  • Rock
  • Sport

They should get a tape of Triple M from around 1984 - 1990. Listen. Learn. Program.

As soon as Austereo purchased Triple M it stopped being competitive, keeping the Today network at #1 seemed to be the priority.

Look at the situation SCA are in now with both networks limping along with a few exceptions.

Very true, not just in metros but in a lot of regional markets where there is competition from ARN or Nova as well.

How sooo true.

Had SCA not let Triple M (especially 2MMM) be the unwanted child, they could’ve made it into an absolute powerhouse - with a lesser impact on the company than when K&J left.

not all of perths log is rock though the music log is good apart from the non rock songs in it example hilltop hoods eminem they need to get the hip hop shit rap crap rnb shit out of that play list

Triple M these days doesn’t have to be about rock music. I think that era may be done - and a good example is what Perth is doing to keep the playlist fresh.

If SCA wants to keep the rock, they need to become more like Rebel or B-Rock. Otherwise, broaden their options without turning into NewFM.
