Looks like Triple M Brisbane and Gold Coast will be doing a joint Drive program again next year, according to The Courier Mail.

Champion swimmer Leisel Jones is moving into a new gig on Queensland radio.

The four-time Olympian will join Triple M’s drive show The Rush Hour, alongside Ben Dobbin and Liam Flanagan, which broadcasts across Brisbane and the Gold Coast from January 17.

The Rush Hour with Leisel, Liam and Dobbo starts on Triple M Brisbane and Triple M Gold Coast from Monday, January 17 and will air from 4pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Which suggests regional QLD will get a generic networked drive show, perhaps shared with other regional locations interstate.

Can only hope Leisel isn’t a repeat of Libby Trickett.

Had 4MMM gone with Margaux Parker from the start, their best drive team of Margaux with Luke Bradnam and Ben Dobbin may have survived as 5MMM drive has during the networked Molloy years.

What was the issue with Libby Trickett?

Wasn’t a radio natural, took a long time to warm up.

That shouldn’t be hard in QLD

Will someone answer me this
How is it that Newcastle runs 4 local announcers across the day but Sydney is running 2 and networking Dangerous Dave in Drive?
It’s much the same on weekends too they’ll network Josh Olek as well as using a weekday announcer but a regional keeps it fully local. Something I don’t get.

Are the Newcastle announcers networked to other regionals? That’s probably where the cost savings are.

Nope

Maybe because in Newcastle they are #1 in the ratings, but are not in Sydney.

It’s the chicken and the egg. Are they #1 because they have so many local announcers? Or do they have so many local announcers because they’re #1?

So I guess with the Drive show for Triple M Brisbane & Gold Coast announced we nearly have the whole picture of Triple M Drive for 2022.

There’ll be shows for Sydney/Regional NSW, Melbourne/Hobart/Regional VIC, Adelaide/Regional SA, Perth/Regional WA (On Delay) & Brisbane/Gold Coast. The only missing piece now is Regional QLD. The press release for Brisbane/Gold Coast focuses heavily on the South East Queensland messaging and doesn’t mention the rest of Queensland at all, which is interesting.

I think there’s a good chance most metro shows will be standalone, with regionals other than Gold Coast sharing the same one.

At least in Victoria, Rush Hour with JB and Billy has been networked regionally since the network re-brand in 2016 so I’d expect that to continue.

Apart from the above example, why cannot the metro drive shows be relayed into respective regional areas (e.g. The Rush Hour with Leisel, Liam and Dobbo relayed into regional QLD)?

I think the reason the Brisbane and Gold Coast show is combined is because it’s basically the one metro area these days. There are a lot of commuters between the two cities and a lot of overlap. A combined drive show makes sense as it’s the one region - SEQ. They can talk about the traffic woes on the M1. They can talk about local issues the rest of Queensland would not be interested in.
