Triple M Network

Triple M now losing to 6IX in Perth 10+. Steady on 5.8 in breakfast but drops across the rest of the board.

Consistently rating below what Hit92.9 was. For probably selfish reasons, I hope SCA move the station to more of a greatest hits playlist

Whenever I hear MMMPerth it always seems to be 90s rock and nothing else.

Adelaide is the only market where Triple M seems to be doing reasonably well overall.

I do agree the music is a bit too rock skewed, particularly for regional areas. A “Greatest Hits” log should work without alienating its target male demos and broadening it’s appeal a bit more.

if people dont like rock they can listen to hit

Variety is the spice of life. I’m 50 and so wish Triple M would go to Music that rocks or Real Music Variety. Incorporate the playlist from Soft Rock, Classic Rock, 90’s and Country and shelve all the flogged Queen and Bon Jovi for 12 months or so. Concentrate on music and forget about sport and comedy. Or move the sport to a DAB station, Triple M sport.

I agree. It’s not the rock music per se, it’s the fact that Triple M only play such a narrow type of rock. Rock should range from soft rock, classic rock, through to modern and even album rock. Triple M is just too narrow and repetitive in the type they play. I always remember how broad the rock used to be on FM104 in the 80s. That’s what I want.

Thanks for that, will definitely give it a listen!

Looks like it has started, I can see it on the website and LiSTNR app, will check Sydney DAB later today.

It’s Soft Rock.

I guess it’s being rejigged.

Went from Winwood’s Valerie into Ed’s Perfect

If that’s the case I’m actually guttered. Soft Rock is my variety choice as they play heaps of non flogged stuff from 80s thru to current. If they go 80s only it will narrow the playlist greatly. Wonder is love god will stay on. After typing this up it looks like 80s is a seperate station so all good

It could be that both may be separate and both be on the Listnr app, but unlikely both would be on DAB, unless they got rid of 90s etc to make room.

So they keep Country but not Soft Rock? That’s insane. Soft Rock and Classic Rock are the only two good things about Triple M.

If they put Triple M 80s on DAB it’ll mean there are four 80s stations in Brisbane - Smooth 80s, 97.3 80s, Easy 80s Hits and Triple M 80s. WTF

Each to there own and I know not every body likes countrybut I do love listening to Country

The main page has both Soft Rock and MMM 80s

I never listened to it myself, but a well done ‘Soft Rock’ is a good niche, for those who a ‘Smooth’ kind of station goes way off into pop, but want something that’s not going to get too heavy and put people off.

I understand Triple M Country still existing - isn’t that still an LPON in some markets? Seems like Triple M should be making some of these stations just streaming, not decide they need to drop one for the other, especially when they are wasting DAB space with Australia Today.

Can’t see the need for “Classic Rock” now if they add all the decades - unless it goes just 60s and 70s with very little 80s/90s. Absolute Classic Rock spans quite a long while, which makes it a good variety station vs the decades ones, but the key difference there is the main Absolute station plays a decent amount of new stuff to make it feel different.

I don’t mind country either, but I just don’t think it fits the Triple M brand of offerings.

let’s hope they play a lot of unflogged 80s hits they used to play on EON FM/FM104/SAFM/Sydney’s original Triple M/96FM back in the day

I wish they wouldn’t name their stations after decades. It is so restrictive. Why not call the Station EONFM which was synonymous with the 80s? Come up with some more imaginative names for their 90s and 70s stations too. It then allows them to venture slightly out of their decades without reprisal.

looking at IP Australia: the EON FM trademark and EON in regards to radio have all been lapsed. With EON Sports Radio folding a few years ago, there’s nothing stopping SCA from renewing the trademark for EON FM. EON Broadcasting (owners of two stations on the Sunshine Coast and until more recently 2CH Sydney) still exist but doesn’t own any EON trademarks in regard to radio.
