Basil Zempilas is rumoured to be joining Clairsy, Matt and Kimba at Mix 94.5 next year. Basil currently hosts 6PR breakfast with Steve Mills, but has been forced to leave by his other employer Seven when his 6PR contract expires in November.
The source said Zempilas â who did not want to speculate to WAtoday on his radio future â had in the past few weeks agreed to join the breakfast team at Mix 94.5, currently hosted by Clairsy, Matt and Kimba.
That suggests Clairsy, Matt and Kimba wonât be part of Mix 94.5 in 2021. Iâd put money on them jumping to 92.9 as part of a Triple M relaunch.
Naturally, that would leave Mix joining the Hit network, which have recently gone overboard with its appeal to heritage. Funny that Lisa Fernandez and Paul Hogan are out of work, then.
I just assumed it wouldnât be a full time gig. Maybe a couple days a week for an hour or so. Especially if heâs expecting to become Lord Mayor
Maybe theyâre making Basil host a brekkie show on Mix similar to Eddieâs Hot Breakfast in Melbourne?
The âWestern Breakfastâ has a nice ring to it?
Ugh I do hate that
Iâm amazed more that that wasnât already taken by a media nerd 10 years ago and used to make a fake Triple M.
Or indeed from when Triple M Perth Digital existed for that short while.
Iâd say itâs to ensure no one takes that handle.
Prediction: So Iâd say itâs safe to say Basil will be one of the new brekkie announcers on 92.9 Triple M Perth.
Inside word is that at least one member of the present 92.9 breakfast team is staying on.
Likely be one of the blokes. Either an ex-AFL player, or a bloke whoâs already worked on the Triple M Network via mix94.5.
Iâd say Pete Curruli will stay on.
Are they trying to create a Hot Breakfast style show, with Basil in the Eddie McGuire role? If this is the plan, I could imagine Xavier Ellis (the ex-footballer) being the one remaining from the current 92.9 team.
Iâm very curious how this will all pan out if it goes ahead as people are predicting. If Mix 94.5 becomes the Hit station, I donât know if I can see the current breakfast show working on that type of stationâŚ
Youâd assume Hit network, but fitting the same way that 2Day does in Sydney, being a different older skewed format - not flipping the 92.9 format over to Mix.
Iâd assume other than adding some 'This is Mix" sweepers, that Mix wouldnât sound all that different, other than taking some different networked shows.
Wasnât the whole point of this recent music shift is so that all Hit stations have the same music format whether it be Sydney, Melbourne or Perth?
I thought Mix was the Triple M station for Perth? Why would they even consider moving it to 92.9 and flipping the Hit format to 94.5? Am I missing something here?
The thinking is the music currently on Mix is more akin to the new AC format of the Hit network. When Mix was super successful it was as a true AC station. The audience (more) might leave if they truly convert it to a Triple M format.
Also Mix is more a heritage brand in Perth like 2day, B105, Fox etc.
92.9 has no real identity so is easier to flip to Triple M and start afresh. If they do I expect it will be a slightly âyoungerâ sounding Triple M than the rest of the network, and maybe let them test the waters with a younger Triple M.
Teasing this out is far too much fun.
I havenât heard what is happening to Mixâs lineup, though logically if 92.9 picks up the Triple M affiliation it will flip to being a Hit station. Logically, youâd keep the heritage brand alongside the rest of the metro Hit stations (2Day, Fox, B105, SAFM) but it is SCA weâre talking about here.
They might also do what 96FM have done and not take all network programming at the same time into Perth?
On 96 they only take one hour of Will and Woody live into Perth. I wonder if SCA would do the same and keep Triple M Perth more local.
