Announces ‘More Than A One Night Stand Sessions’ with Music Australia
It’s official! triple j’s One Night Stand is heading down the Great Ocean Road and will be making its hotly anticipated return in Warrnambool, Victoria on Saturday, 14 September at Friendly Societies Park on Peek Whurrong Land.
After dropping hints all week, triple j Breakfast hosts Concetta & Luka finally confirmed the coastal town that will play host to triple j’s epic, one-day, all-ages concert featuring G Flip, Ruel, What So Not + Friends, Thelma Plum, Sycco, DICE, and a triple j Unearthed competition winner.
Tucked away on the South West Victorian coastline, Warrnambool is situated just past the end of the Great Ocean Road. Big coastal cliffs hug crystal clear waters, surrounded by lush green spaces and a community keen for a huge live music experience. Plus, it’s just a 3-hour car ride or the last stop on the V Line train from Melbourne. It’s also the first time the One Night Stand has landed in Victoria in ten years - the last time was Mildura in 2014 - so get ready for a sensory feast in Warrnambool with stunning views, possible whale sightings, and an unforgettable night with the best in Australian music.
That’s not all! Delivered in partnership with Music Australia, triple j today also announces the More Than A One Night Stand Sessions. The three-day event will offer regional and remote artists, industry and communities the chance to get skilled up by some of the best in the music industry.
Kicking off on Thursday, 12 September, at The Lighthouse Theatre in Warrnambool, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in panel discussions, songwriting workshops, industry forums and more. The sessions will be curated by leading industry organisations including the Association of Artist Managers, AIR, APRA AMCOS, CrewCare, Kennell & Co, Live Music Office, Music Australia, Music Victoria, The Push, and VMDO. September is probably the worst month for a concert in wet and windy, westerly exposed Warrnambool. Good luck.
Plus I don’t think I’ve heard of any of those artists
G Flip I’ve only heard of because they did the rounds performing at the AFLW Grand Final and a few other sporting events late last year.
Ruel did a LikeAVersion that went viral I think.
They
G Flip is known for four things:
- Being non-binary
- Being married to someone off Selling Sunset
- Appearing in a ridiculous amount of commercials over the past few years (Bonds, Subaru, Twisties)
and, most incredibly, - Somehow managing to break the record for most songs in the Hottest 100 despite not having any actual hit songs (part of me suspects people saw their name on the voting list and just voted for them all based on name recognition, without even bothering to listen to any of them)
Thelma Plum is quite good though.
they are a bit of a dykeon too - big in the LGBT+ commuity
The ‘Bool is good until the steeplechase protesters disrupt the event.
That was precisely my first thought too. Even as a Geelong boy we used to think Warrnambool was a cold place.
Poor Thelma Plum is a Brisbane girl too (hence her ode to the Brown Snake) - she’ll need thermals on stage I reckon.
triple j’s One Night Stand sells out in less than 24 hours
triple j’s One Night Stand 2024 has sold out in less than 24 hours of going on sale, following news that the iconic concert series is heading to Warrnambool, in Victoria on Peek Whurrong Land on Saturday, 14 September.
Fresh from a five-year break, triple j’s One Night Stand returns with its biggest lineup of Australian talent yet, promising regional audiences and music lovers a one-of-a-kind event in South West Victoria.
Head of triple j Lachlan Macara said, “We’re thrilled that more than 15,000 tickets have been snapped up so quickly by the people of Warrnambool and other music fans around the country. This response shows the demand regional audiences have for live Australian music and reaffirms triple j’s unwavering commitment to both. We’re grateful to do this while raising critical funds for the Australian music industry charity, Support Act.”
The 2024 edition of One Night Stand will also provide regional and remote communities access to some of the best brains in the music business with the introduction of More Than A One Night Stand Sessions, delivered in partnership with Music Australia. Head here for all the info.
If you didn’t grab a ticket to Warrnambool, it’s all good! triple j will be bringing you all the best bits live streamed across triple j socials, on the radio and via the triple j app on Saturday, 14 September.
triple j’s One Night Stand will be shown on ABC Entertains Sunday 15 September 8.30pm.
Now, Wil Anderson and Adam Spencer are teaming back up and hitting the road to re-live all the comedy and chaos of their time shared on the airwaves.
Billed as ‘The First Time (In A Long Time)’, the tour will see the duo sharing yarns and reconnecting with a generation of triple j listeners in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Wollongong, and Newcastle between October and December.
Brand refresh coming?
Hopefully a complete overhaul of the station sound - JJJ has had the same audio branding since the late 2000s.
And it’s still so bad.
