If his co-host doesn’t command that pay then the network isn’t going to just give it to them because it’s the right thing to do or whatever. These are corporations after all.

It’s pretty standard at all the networks to be paid less than someone who has been around longer than you, even if you are in the same role. It’s not great but that’s the way it works in the industry.

They perform the same duties, but that doesn’t mean they do the same job for the network or have the same impact on the bottom line.

It’s the same with celebrity endorsements. Celebrity A is a global megastar and gets paid $10m to endorse a product while Celebrity B is a local talent show star in New Zealand and only gets paid $20k. They film identical commercials, do identical photo shoots and make the same social media posts.

Karl/Sarah will clearly have a pay disparity - however over time this should close. Judging by history perhaps it won’t as Lisa was clearly as much a drawcard as Karl.

There’s no way Sarah is getting 800k. Lisa only reportedly was earning that just before she requested parity.

Lisa was told after her 10th anniversary that she was more of a drawcard than Karl and the ratings
after her departure evidently support that.

Breakfast tv isn’t worth anywhere what it used to. There isn’t even that market competitiveness for talent anymore. Hardly any justification to be requesting pay rises every contract. Koch wouldn’t even be earning as much as Karl, and his show is number 1.

Sadly this happens all the time though. There isn’s pay parity across all of the same roles at my work. A lot of the time it’s in contracts to not discuss salaries with colleagues as well.

Karl could be doing more for the network eg, 60 Minutes, special reports for the network, could justify his pay

As has always been the case, Karl in addition to hosting TODAY does at the minimum 2 60 Mins stories a year, plus other media to promote TODAY, compare this to Lisa who back when she was at Nine, only just did TODAY and was very rarely seen on other duties.

Karl in theory, does deserve more money than Sarah, but 1.5 is a stretch. Don’t forget that Sarah might still do the occasional 60 Mins story in the future, she’s better at that sort of journalism instead of sitting at a desk for 17 hours a week.

Why are we even talking about their pay? It’s none of our business. Stupid article.

FYI The bit about not discussing salaries with others isn’t legal anymore - companies can’t prohibit discussion on remuneration.

The argument is silly. He’s paid what the network believes he’s worth otherwise they wouldn’t pay it. End of story.

But what does Waleed make compared to Sarah?

Nobody ssid pay disparity only happens on Today. Neither of them are on Today, by the way.

Lisa wasn’t afforded the opportunities to do anything else because, with Karl away every third week, they needed some consistency in the hosting line-up on Today. That is the same people who forced her to stay on Today also justified the pay-gap because she only stayed on Today.

I agree with Lisa could have been offered more opportunities, although there was an issue with exclusivity deal she had with the Huffington Post at time.

Ridiculous we are having to justify money. Karl & Sarah are a great duo, doing a great job.

So are we going to complain about the “how awkward it is how Clint is being lent on?” Like people did with Nat casually embracing Kochie?
