Melissa Doyle is to host this ITV produced look at the impact of Covid-19 on NSW prisons for Nine, according to The Australian . Sarah Abo and Prisoner actress Val Lehman were understood to have also been in the running to host but “the temptation for Nine to rub Seven’s nose in it” appears to have been too great.

Battle at breakfast, Today show hits 2021 high. | TV Tonight

At breakfast, Today recorded its highest audience since March 2020. The show was just 4k behind Sunrise. While Sunrise’s audience was on par with its usual pre-Olympic audience it was a big increase for Today that closed the gap, after finishing third yesterday. News Breakfast was only 25k behind as well.

The biggest audience for any market for either breakfast show was Today’s rating in Brisbane - a 2021 high - just 500 ahead of News Breakfast that also did well. In Sydney, a market Sunrise usually dominate it was less than 20 viewers ahead of Today yesterday.

Speaking of Karl, now would be a good time to discuss the resurgence of Today.

Whether you like him or not it appears giving him his job back was indeed the right move for the show.

His pairing with Ally is arguably the most successful partner that he has had.

The additions of Alex, Brooke and Tim round out what I believe to be a well rounded team.

The show is in a solid place at the moment. The Nine News brand in general is in a very good place.
