Today (2015-Sept 2020)

Ok. I misunderstood previously because you claimed Breaking news made more sense in one of your last posts. But now yes I agree with what you are saying. :+1:

BREAKING NEWS! Woman gives birth

Jayne will be working just weekends at Nine until she is ready to return full-time.

The Australian is reporting David Campbell will co-host with Allison Langdon for three days from today while Karl is on paternity leave and is asserting Nine bosses will be taking a keen interest in the performance of the show without Karl.

Which is a valid assertion as, if you just wanted someone to just ‘fill-in’ for Karl, you’d just bump up Alex Cullen or Richard Wilkins. But they’ve chosen someone who they know has chemistry with Allison and someone who has a different style to who they usually choose to host.

Three days isn’t much time to have an effect though. I suppose the question is if Karl isn’t bringing in additional viewers than a lower profile talent, is the multi-million dollar contract worth it?

Brooke is sitting at the desk with the rest of the team this morning while presenting entertainment

I assume he will be doing Today Extra.

Today has to do something about their newsreader. Alex isn’t very interesting. Holding both roles makes it more obvious.
They need to get a Belinda Russell or Sylvia Jeffreys in their quickly to make things more interesting.

Great to have David in the host chair!

For anyone interested, this is David’s first time co-hosting since December 2015. You can base that because off the HD Watermark.

Cap is from AusCeleb Forums. Totally not being a creep :rainbow::rainbow::rainbow:
However, IIRC the last time DC filled in during survey was in July-August 2015, filling in for Karl for a week. Can’t seem to find a cap for that.

Must say it was a surprise to see David this morning. But a very good one. Why they chose to have some of the awful co-host combinations over summer when David was still doing Today Extra/Weekends was beyond me.

EDIT: Why haven’t they moved back into Studio 22 yet? They can still implement social distancing on the set. Just quietly, I think Today is planning on staying in Studio 23 until they move to North Sydney (which I believe is happening next year).

I wonder why? I think it was they originally moved to Studio 23 to lessen the people due to strict social distancing but I can’t think of why else they haven’t moved back, power usage?

I’m sure there is a reason, it would be interesting to know.

EDIT: I get the feeling they will be in Studio 23 for a while to come as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they remain in Studio 23 until the move to their new premises where they can talk up their “massive new Today studio” etc.

Isn’t the issue that Studio 22 requires more staff as it’s less automated?

I prefer that studio anyway, doesn’t look like a cold barren aircraft hangar.

Probably so that only one program had any changes. Also because David is a better host than them and would rival the normal hosts, this would mean that some viewers would switch off when Karl/whoever came back.

Good choice as they have proven chemistry and David is a pleasure to watch along with Allison.

Should be using the 6pm news set. It looked great when Today used the GTV set a couple of years ago.

Aren’t they using this one because it is auto-controlled? Needs no BTS staff to run the equipment.
